How do I gain karma as Artificer?

I have been trying to gain karma as Artificer but can't seem to figure it out. Everything I see on line says to go to the Echos but that doesn't help when I can't get past the gates. I first thought was to kill scavs but that seems to not effect it. I've tried dragging the body's but as soon as I let go, my karma goes down. And these are the only things that I'm seeing on line.

If any one can expand this, you would save me a lot of confusion.

You can't, at least not without visiting an echo or cheating, if you want to go through a gate you need to kill a shav and drag them to the gate.

All the scavs have different karma levels and they go down each day from the cycle they have perished on, so you need to get a new one after a while. If you want to know how much karma they have you need to pick one up and look at your karma level down left on your screen, it will display the current karma level of the scavengers corpse.

Echoes as Artificer are a bit different. You need to visit their spot beforehand AND have karma flower protection when the cycle starts.

Why? That is a weird way to get karma. Is it because of the 5 natural urges and Artificer's actions?

I don't want to spoil anything. But Artificer has nightmares a lot and they explain what's going on.

You MUST carry a scavenger corpse to the gate in a timely manner if you want to progress. They degrade by one karma every cycle.

If you're skilled enough at the game and are willing to put up with frequent red centipedes and red lizards, you can fight through the toll which I think is slightly faster than going the intended route.

Artificer is bound to the first urge, as her nightmares show.

Ok, so, going to the Echoes will let you have other karma levels. From there it acts like normal with the exception that you need to unlock the karma first. 1 Echoes = 1 karma level.

correct. The 5th echo you meet gives 2 levels.
