it's gotten to the point where if i see even a couple of pixels of red, i'm bolting
Fair assesement, but I'll counter with the fact that they are very region specific in very specific rooms. Leviathans are only active at certain moment of the day, and mother long legs are really just bigger ddl, so once you are used to navigating one, the other is ok too.
While red centipedes can spawn in a lot of places, are kinda random and can be accidentally lineaged, and despite being technically killable, if you don't have spore puffs on the ready or playing gourmand or rivulet it's a fast and terrifying death machine, too which you can do very little about.
lmao?
but nothing tops the sense of dread and atmosphere that the first DLL encounters instill. MLL are technically more terrifying, but they're just more of the same and lose a lot of the impact.
Watching a writhing mass of unthinking tumorous tissue creep down from above, then watching it probe into the tunnels you hide in with its long tendrils is terrifying even once you've learned how to deal with DLLs.
They only appear in a handful of rooms in the entire game and are almost invisible.
they arent scary unless they have their creepy needle.
♥♥♥♥ red centipedes, all my homies hate red centipedes
Red centipedes, though... you can't stop them, you can't outrun them, and unless you've got a sporepuff on hand you surely can't kill them before they f i n d y o u.
with randomizer, though, red centipedes can be anywhere, at any time, and don't necessarily stay where they spawned. it really made me appreciate how the base game doesn't try to drown me in giant armoured centipedes.
