Best Method for "Clean" Install?
as someone who (foolishly) messed around with a few mods from raindb before downpour released and later the workshop here opened, in spite of my best efforts i believe i permanently "broke" parts of my sav file. i've heard that, unfortunately, basically the only way to really remedy this is to just delete everything and do a clean install.

with all the mods i have running, i'm sure even this wouldn't completely solve ALL of my problems, but it'd be really nice to have a game that's even just a little bit more stable and not gunked up with corrupted or fragmented data from my amateurish attempt to remove the old mods' remnants :') while it'd be really sad to have to start all over again with all the hours i have on my current save, i have completed every campaign at least once (most of them more than once), besides that of. well. a certain "secret" scug........ who i honestly think i'd be the most upset to lose progress for LMAO i was doing pretty well in their campaign and even had a pup!!

i know there's the appdata>locallow>videocult>rain world file location as well as the obvious steamapps>common>rain world; would simply deleting both "rain world" directories be enough? are there any other locations i'd have to "clear out", and would it be better or not to uninstall and re-install through steam?

i'm still not 100% committed to the idea of wiping everything in spite of it all, but......... i suppose this would give me even more initiative to play through every campaign again pfff

anyone else here have experience with doing this?

I gotchu. You gotta find the "Managed" folder and either delete it or its contents. Then verify your files. If it says it's restored the missing files, it means it forced a clean install. It's somewhere in locallow. I am reciting this from memory though so take it with a grain of salt.

Alternately, you clear the save files in game after disabling every mod and restart that way, but that doesn't clear arena unlocks and map unlocks iirc.

@Sonstar it looks like the "managed" folder is in the steamapps>common>rain world directory; either way, is that the only one that matters? i know when i was fiddling with mods before i temporarily removed the contents of the videocult folder which seemed to register as clearing my save data for some reason. is that a new thing?

and if you clear the files from the in-game options menu, does it effectively function the same (minus the arena and map unlocks ofc)?

i know the stuff i'm asking is probably pretty redundant, but if i do go through with this i at least wanna be sure i don't mess THIS up too LMAO
Unsure about the videocult folder, but I do know managed contains ALL the data. If you delete that, even steam can't save it. It should empty the ENTIRE game. This is also the fix for people who cannot get rid of their BepInEx manager/mods from 1.5.
It should be the only one that matters, but just in case, turn off your steam cloud saving for Rain World just until it's deleted.

No worries on redundancy, asking questions is good.
Do remember that I am also taking this from memory though, so if it it doesn't work I will get back to you in a few days with the full solution, unless someone else remembers before I grab the exact conversation I had about this lol.

Hope it works :D
hmm... the managed folder seems to be under rainworld_data in the rain world folder, which is separate from both the bepinex and userdata folders, and seems, for me, to mostly contain plugins and modules for unity. i'm unsure if there's another managed folder and maybe i'm just not looking in the right place?

either way, would simply deleting the entire rain world folder under either/both directories effectively function the same way, since i'd be downloading everything again by verifying files anyway? or would that ♥♥♥♥ something up too?
Yup. That's it. Either delete the contents within or delete the file itself. Same outcome.

Shouldn't mess anything up since it's going to be a clean reinstall anyways.
