Then click Apply Mods. After the game enables everything, you can go back to Remix menu, click on "Rain World Remix" or any of the others, and look through options and stuff to see if you want to tweak something.
I believe the reason why they did it like this is because some people started whining about "don't touch our game with your filthy expansions!"
So it's completely optional whether or not you want to enable things.
Well, not necessarily. You CAN unlock all characters in More Slugcats options. But it's hidden under "cheats" menu.
The idea of modifying and tinkering with the new Remix game parameters already felt a bit like "cheating" to me.
Having choices is great, but that freedom does feel atypical for Rain World - which is probably what confused me.
