Explosives seem to bounce right off and I didn't notice much good done by the electric spears.
Thankfully you won't have to worry about dying after that.
After you kill the boss as artificer the run ends, you can still load back into it however.
Try to keep the fight in the center of the chamber. You can climb his throne and bait him into throwing missing spears and retaliate with your own when he's unarmed. There is a crowd of regular and elite scavengers who will immediately attack if you approach the exit to the left of the chamber and there is some level geometry that gives the scavenger chieftain the advantage as far less of their body is exposed and the artificer has to approach with no cover at all. This works both ways though if you want to use the right side for yourself.
You do not have to retreat to another shelter after killing the chieftain. Picking up his mask ends the game.
