Yep you didn't misread that! although they are very simple, in fact there are only two as far as I am concerned

Hold down then press jump and that'll prompt them to stay in place

Hold up then press jump and they'll start following you again

Aaand that's it lol

Maybe this is something that was well known, but I didn't see anyone talking about it, so I felt like sharing this info :p
