Can I lose maximum karma?

So... I was playing the hunter mode, but when i reached the depths I noticed that I couldn't reach "maximum karma" no matter how many times i hibernate, I had already went to five pebbles at that point, but I didn't notice if if they gave me max Karma or not, so that makes me question, if I die do I lose maximum karma?

But is kinda weird five pebbles don't give you maximum karma even though they want to help you anyway.

They want to help, but cant do more because of hunters condition

pebbles does help but just 1 karma level boost + 5 cycles
