Accidental Scavenger Kill, debating wether I need to start a new game

Was hunting bugs, threw a spear at one and a scavenger came outta pipe head first between the two, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ dead, scavengers now kill me on site regardless if I offer them pearls. Is there a way to reset my reputation?

Negative reputation gradually drifts toward neutral. Just avoid them for several cycles until they start accepting trades again

Also you can always trade with scavengers at tolls since their reputation is always pacifist.
Is way easier to give them gifts when they are not trying to kill you

Just remember to crouch down and crawl towards them most of the time to present a less threatening profile. Yes, that's a thing.

This also works because if they try to throw a spear it usually goes over your head.
