Monk or Survivor for first playthrough?

I played for a few hours as the Survivor yesterday and got to the garbage wastes, but I kind of wandered off and got lost, so I feel like restarting and I was wondering, if I should try the Monk instead. So what do people think is better for first playthrough? I heard that Monk has some unique story elements, so wouldn't playing him after completing the game as the Survivor get boring? Or should I just stick with Survivor?

Monk is boring to play as, most of the time you won't encounter anything when exploring and when you do the creatures will ignore you, there are no colored pearls so no extra lore and the mode has no unique creatures so if you play survivor you know how monk is like. The "unique story elements" is merely the fact that characters mention having seen your kind before and you see a golden slugcat before you have a vision

It's not like I figured what to do with the pearls anyway. But if you say it's pretty much the same minus any challenge, then I'll continue with the Survivor.

Hybernate with 3 different colored pearls and you will get an achievement + a hint on what to do with them. White ones you should trade them with scavengers for reputation.

Sadly yes, no creature, plant or character is unique to this mode

another thing about monk is that there are some minor differences here and there that assume you've already played survivor and might look confusing if you play monk first.

Survivor has quite a bit more content than the Monk. Some content is even outright REMOVED as the Monk. I'd recommend Survivor unless you're REALLY struggling with the game.
