Case and point, deers are broken. Even if the design intent was to create a creature that doesn't always have to listen to you or act as a personal bus, they more often than not do it in a really broken and glitchy way that needs to be fixed.
Though, luckily, eventually I fed one that wasn't broken and rode it to victory [the other side of the worm grass].
It's a bit disappointing to learn that these creatures are so unreliable and there's no known trick to deal with them. Wasting a cycle because they won't stand up at all is frustrating, especially on Hunter mode.
