Do Pearls stay where you drop them?

Let's say I am going to take as many pearls as I can from Pebbles...... it's really hard to make the trips back and forth to moon carrying 3 pearls.... can I leave the pearls in a shelter or by moon and they won't go away?

I just feel if I leave them they will disappear as that's what happens in most games.

forewarning: previous experience would indicate that most if not all of 5peb's pearls are formatted/empty

I don't think they move unless a scavenger spot them

I'm not sure about the world, but they seem to persist inside safe-rooms... but I'm also fairly sure I've had a scavenger go into one of my safe rooms and steal a coloured pearl. If you store them, make sure it's somewhere that scavengers can't gain access, like a ceiling safe-room, or anywhere requiring a jump to get to.

Items are persistent in shelters, but if left around on the map they'll be washed away by the next rain!
