Try and go past the lizards unnoticed, without making noise, if they're looking the other way.
Use throwables to lure them somewhere else with noise.
With the blue tentacles, just wait till they go their way. Do not engage them, do not make any noise, leave some distance. They are deadly, but they're basically blind.
If it's too frustrating, just know everything that comes after that is comparatively easy.
When you get to the room full of the sticky slugs, go to the right and use the slug to climb up to the next hibernation area, it bypasses a bunch of stuff if you go that way. It can also help you out a bunch in the next few rooms but don't hang on to it for too long if it's making life difficult.
As for the tentacle monsters, your best bet there is a combination of stealth, patience, and luring them to a place where you can get past them. They can't detect you as long as you're crawling and not touching them (although they do feel around so they might find you by chance that way).
I heard the Underhang is even worse?
The underhang is easier imo, as you can jump over them, and there aren't any white ones, and you don't have the blue thing to deal with. Hell I got my first dragon kill in the underhang.
But at the Underhang, there are more ways to move around: advance and retreat faster, like pipes which are useful to lose chasing lizards.
With tentacles, just be patient and silent, move when they go the other way. Can't stress this strategy enough.
Most of the problems with Underhang come from not being able to locate the shelter when you get inside, I think.
And I definitely already saw the following things already in the Underhang despite promises they won't be there:
- Tentacle Monsters
- White Lizards
Golden Lizards are a sight for sore eyes though. And the lack of vertical traversal.
How long is the Underhang? I really want to be in normal non-linear areas again. This is not a good place for a slugcat.
The Underhang is really a very small region. You'll need karma to leave, but that shouldn't be an issue once you get the HANG of it.
Also a piece of advice for the next area: if you have difficulties with one route in Five Pebbles, explore further and you should be able to find another route through it.
Also got through Five Pebbles! I was warned about Unfortunate Developments already. Damn, those two routes differ a lot though. I wonder why they are in there like this.
To make us cry. I was stuck on UD for hours trying to get past the nightmare shaft. Went to bed and when I woke I breezed through it on the first try.
