Killing a vulture (and what comes next)

After I pinned a lizard to the wall with a spear, a vulture swept down and tried to carry it away.
However, vultures being ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bird-monsters, it just stayed there, desperately trying to pull it away from the wall. I used this opportunity to steal that suckers mask and ran for it.

The vulture went into berserk-mode and followed me everywhere, extremely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ that I took its stupid hat. Eventually, my trusty scavenger buddies killed it and I thought that was the end of it.

Am I now on the official vulture sh*tlist? Is there somewhere a vulture-HQ, where a vulture with a bad haircut is organizing airstrikes on me?

How exactly does one go about stealing a mask? They're always too quick to run away from in large open spaces and getting next to them is usually insta-kill. Please. TEACH ME OF THE MASK STEALING WAYS!

You gotta get in close; keep track of where its stupid bird-head is, and you can avoid it (mostly).
Other than that, you can max. your chances by forcing it to come at you horizontally (e.g. in a tunnel), so you can properly aim for its head.
+ Having some scavenger buddies around that poke and distract it makes it ALOT easier.

Incredibly, the first time I loaded the game, the first time I ever encountered a vulture, at the base of the wall entering Industrial... I panicked, and accidentally flung a spear as I climbed into a hole, and knocked it's mask straight off! It reeled, I grabbed the mask... ran around "ooga"ing with it for a minute, before the same vulture came rampaging back in and grabbed me.
In the 30+ hours I've played since, I've never managed to repeat that feat.

I did manage to kill one outright just today, using a borrowed scavenger boom-spear... though his mate turned up and ate me before I could attempt looting a mask off him.

Try to lure vultures in areas with mid to low height poles and fight them with ususally 2 spears. It will most of the time get stuck on the poles and u can wail on him with ur 2 spears until he dies.. just always keep jumping.. if u walk while near his grabbing disance ,he will easily grab u. His accuracy is bad if u keep jumping. Although it is RnG sometimes when he instagrabs u. When he dies spam spears on his head until mask gets off. u can grab his head and pull it in one direction for better aiming at it
