Unreliable Cicada Jump

I must be doing something wrong because using a Cicada to jump across some of those spaced out platforms in the Sky Islands is the most unreliable thing ever. A good 80% of the time I get a solid high arc jump, but the other 20% I get a small tiny arc jump leading to my death. Can anyone explain the pattern behind these ♥♥♥♥ing things?

Check their wings before jumping. They cet exhausted at some point. Ungrab regrab thèm to make them feel better. White cicadas are best for jump.

Also, stop moving before a jump, the cicadas are affected by physics so if you jump they may swing/rotate a bit which affects your next jump arc if you are going too fast.

Oh! That makes sense. I jump around a lot when holding a cicada because I found it fun. Maybe I was wearing them out.
