Any recommendation of the order to explore the areas?

So I've started this game for a while. It is really tough but I do enjoy it... I think from the outskirts I visited drainage system, swam through and now I'm in filtration system.

The problem is I can hardly see a thing since I entered the last part of the drainage system and fitration. First time I was there, I died in a second ( I think my slugcat was eaten by a red thing I can't see clearly) and I have to check the map every three seconds to see where can I jump or climb to...
I looked around the forum and it seems people usually visit other areas earlier than this one, but now I can't even go back(there seems to be no way to jump back from the waterfall tunnel...)

Should I keep going or start a new save and go another way? Is there any recommendation of the order to explore the world?

to start with, try exploring outskirts (obviously), industrial complex, garbage wastes, and shoreline. You CAN cut through shaded citadel instead of garbage wastes on your way to shoreline, but I don't think I'd recommend visiting that area until you have a proper light source.

In particular, you should AVOID the following places until you're reasonably experienced: farm arrays, sky islands, drainage system, chimney canopy

Ahh thanks for the tips! The days in drainage system really forced me to improve my skills...I guess I'll keep this save for later and try some other ones first.

The order that the little worm guides in game will suggest is as follows
[MILD SPOILERS] although I'm not really sure how spoilery it is to just list area names...

Outskirts -> Industrial Complex -> Garbage Wastes -> Shoreline -> Looks to the Moon -> Shoreline -> Shaded Citadel -> Memory Crypt -> The Leg -> Underhang -> Five Pebbles.

From there I'm not sure if there's a particular order to go.
