Suggestion: Do not lose a karma rank when the game is exited from the pause menu.
It's extremely disappointing that whenever I have to stop playing this game due to outside circumstances that I have to lose a karma rank. Exiting the game already places you in the same hibernation chamber as the previous hibernation- why can't exiting the game also keep the same amount of karma as when that hibernation was complete? Worse still, you lose the yellow flower that allows you to have one free death if you have one when exiting the game, and these flowers are extremely rare in my experience. I would really appreciate it if exiting the game via the pause menu does not lower my karma rank by one. Please consider implementing this change.

Its so that you can't take advantage and just quit every time you start doing bad.

I think that there should be a one time save option then like Death Road to Canada has. Punishing the player for having to quit the session sucks.

This doesn't happen if you exit from hibernating. It's to prevent cheating the system.

It only just occurred to me that this is to prevent cheating the system. I haven't actually tried quitting the game to genuinely escape a deathly situation, so I suppose I didn't think of this...

I now see the necessity of this feature, but....I can't help but be disappointed that I can't get that yellow flower back. :(

The yellow flowers exist so that if you die, you keep the karma symbol once rather than lose it. They are scattered throughout the world.

Basically a one up.

Were going to look into this!

It was intended just as Blackenblood says, to prevent people from just restarting a cycle over and over when things seem to be going badly, but I think theres ways we can do that without punishing people for, say... getting up to get a drink or something.

Suggestions are welcome!

Why not just have people start exactly from where they exited when they continue again that way they can't cheat death.
Also incase of a bug that causes them to be stuck you can have an additional option when continuing to start from the last hibernation spot (with loss of karma)

But what if people hit Alt+F4 or game crashes and it won't be able to save in that short time?

Well I'd be looking at an option in the pause menu that allows freezing the gamestate.... all the stuff saved in Rainworld.shelter PLUS all the other infor you can get from Devtools (M) way of freezing the game, freeze player potition, and all other creature positions... possibly their movement states as well as their current intent; that's the only real way to do it. problem is that's a LOT of new info to save. (I'm one of the modders, so yes.) I'd make SOMETHING akin to that only available in singleplayer, and hybernation the only option for 2player. (they are in the code but not implemented for those who don't know... it's not ready for release yet)

another save option maybe to spawn a 'karma point' object at the point of Quitting (in that room), but only once per 24h period

@normalprimate please jump on disco, we mods have SO MANY questions that you could answer in liek; 2seconds.

there are SO many extra things to save to do this. it's possible, but the code is already.... hardly clean.

You can exit from the hibernation or in a 15 second (not sure) timespan after starting the cycle without losing a point.

Also, one cycle is never really that long. So it shouldnt be a problem to quit at hibernation, at least it never was for me so far.

I understand peoples frustration, but i cant think of a good way to take this out without allowing cheating. Just knowing that you could save your karma by quitting would change peoples mindset while playjng. Hovering over the pause button at dangerous situations, quitting even though it could have worked out, and so on.

Dont change this too much guys :/

One thing that always bothered me was that exiting before you ever left the hibernation chamber would still count as a death. Theres been a few times where I accidentally hit continue and I either have to take a karma hit or keep playing.

I have this problem too. In my opinion exiting the game without losing karma should have been an option. In a single player game, it's more important to cater to these things than preventing cheating. I'd even go as far as to say it's the game that must earn the players not wanting to cheat in it. It's never the players who must earn beating the game the way the developers intended.

Thing is, I would appreciate having this option even as a means to cheat. It would have made this a better game. I stopped playing Rain World over the karma system and still long for a patch that lets me remove it. Due to the dodgy controls (especially crouching conflicting with moving down a ledge) and frequent unfair deaths, I'd even go for save states if it was an option.
