River Hex
It's a bit confusing to me where to position at a river or bridge crossing.
Do you set up on the solid groung behind or the river/bridge hex?

Behind. Units ON the river or bridge suffer from combat penalties when attacking or defending.

Got it thanks but don't you think thats a little odd?
Please don't be biast but doesn't it make more sense, it does to me, to have your guys ON the river/bridge hex - defending 'your' side of the river?!
I kinda knew the answer before posting and it's been bugging me, especially for aesthetics and immersion, could this be looked at possibly...

Seems logical to me, behind the river get defense bonus. On the bridge of the river get out in the open terrain modifier and usually destroyed. This is real wargaming terrain modifiers at its best. Good ole old school stuff

It must just be me then...

Think of it as being in a valley (lower banks) and the enemy is above you on the opposite bank. High ground vs. low ground and exposed. Especially attacking from there.

Yer I get it but it still bugs me.
Defender on the river hex makes sense to me and attacking that hex should pay the price would seem 'more' realistic.

I feel quite the opposite. You are essentially trying to cross the river. Either bank is the hex next to the river. If you are on the river hex, which side are you on? Both is the way I look at it.

You don't want to defend a bridge by being ON the bridge. You want them to funnel down the bridge where you murder them with crossfire from the other side.

And what about beach hex's?
Wheres the argument here?

Surely this wants to be revised, looked at, debated further...

In both cases, there is mainly 'green' land on the hex's. Very defendable and to me, off-putting to have to use he hex behind to set-up and defend from.
