Rising Sun Java
I find the Java invasion scenario of Order of Battle Rising Sun to be way too gamey. Just plain AWFUL. One of the primary victory conditions is to destroy 10 trucks to hurt enemy morale. One would think taking over everything with hurt morale enough! Unless you cut them off, the trucks all run to the corner of the map surrounded by tons of AA. AA that would rationally be placed elsewhere, not in the middle of nowhere guarding trucks. This encourages unrealistic tactics to surround and destroy tucks, otherwise they get away with a few hit points and hide.

Mostly Order of Battle avoids the puzzle aspects of some games, but this trucks business just screams puzzle. Makes me want to stop playing. Does anyone think this trucks puzzle concept is a good idea?

Same thought. This mission was a PITA at release, but i remember that i could field a larger fleet. Now, played the mission right now, i could only build 2 additional ships, making me completely outnumbered in the "ambush" later on.....
I don´t know why i keep playing this BS....every year i start playing it, something doesn´t feel right.

If you really hate the mission there’s console commands to skip it with a major victory.

I personally hate the Cape Matapan scenario. I beat it once on max to test it for the beta and since then I’ve skipped it once and turned difficulty down to normal once.

If you have to cheat, then there´s something wrong with the mission design, just saying.

Though i personally like the fact they put a sea battle against the italians, i do agree it wasnt really a good mission. Its like shoot this navy down so they dont bother you in greece.

It felt a bit random and i missed countless of other battles i reckoned would have made a bit more sense. I missed things like the battle of britian, convoy escorting supplies from america to Great Britain, battle of crete et centra.

For example i found the mission of supplying tobruk a direct copy of raiding the supplies as the axis in the sandstorm campaign. (only you are trying to supply your troops instead of raiding the supplies).

I did however like the battles in norway, france and the operation compass scenarios.

You’re welcome to believe that, but my personal opinion is that everyone likes different things and some people will really love Matapan even though I hate it. There’s several people on the official forum who enjoyed the heck out of it and were even clamoring for more. Different strokes for different folks.

I don’t really remember the scenario in OP’s comments and I’d like to see the original campaigns redone as a full three campaign arc, but honestly what we have now is still pretty good and there’s plenty of alternative campaigns for people who don’t enjoy it.

The reason I posted was to see if others agree, and maybe thus get feedback back to developers. Overall, OoB does a good job avoiding overly gamey puzzles but there are some exceptions. So far, the only scenarios I really dislike are Rising Sun Java (gamey), Rising Sun New Zealand (too many unbelievable events), and Blitzkreig Dunkirk (too few Axis troops). I have won all three at normal difficulty, I just did not enjoy them.

I want to feel like a military commander choosing plausible plans while anticipating and reacting to enemy actions. Getting surprised by French counter-attacks in 1940 or Japanese attacks in the Pacific and having to regroup and react and sometimes almost panic is great. But chasing down trucks or experiencing implausible events is not what I am looking for.
