Gandhi on Burma Road
Sorry, but I'm lost. I've taken control of the whole peninsula, but I have no idea how to get my forces out to Gandhi to complete the mission. There are docks in the west, but it is impossible to get through from there to Gandhi because of the map. Do you know how I could complete the mission? Thank you for your help!

He should appear in a random location on the main peninsula. Are you saying he is still sitting on the 1-hex island in the bottom center of the map?

Also have this problem. Gandhi remains on the island until battle end. Surrounding with commandos doesn't help!

@Adherbal Yes, correct! Gandhi is on the 1-hex island in the bottom center: https://imgur.com/a/9yovd

havent finished map yet but yes he has just appeared in same place on the one hex island

Yep same thing, "finished" scenario ended in defeat as Ghandi on the island and no way to get to him, tried map 4 times now sameresult

LOL.He has ALWAYS been in the hospital in my game(s). It says that I capture him but his unit still remains in the hospital and not under British control.
I have yet to figure out why I can only suppress 6 Factory Rioters. The rest of them get whittled down but never count towards my victory requirement.

(SPOILER) The factory ones took me a bit of time, its like chess, push them towards the hostels, one attack each, if you push them one hex away from the hostel sorted

So is there solution with Gandhi or I have to replay mission with hope he will appear in other place?

I am also stuck on the Quit India Denied mission - I took great pains to ensure not a single civilian protester unit was destroyed and methodically cleared the bandits from every VP, and now the entire map is reclaimed.

I can now see Gandhi on the island, and the only objective left is to arrest him, with all secondary objectives achieved. This is impossible, as I have no naval or air units, the mission does not even allow them to be employed and the only docks allow access to water that is unconnected to the stretch in which the island lies. I have run the mission to the end, and it results in defeat and the total failure of the campaign. This is extremely frustrating.

Could this be a result of seizing some of the primary objective points too quickly? Or too slowly? I had well over half the remaining mission turns to run by the time the entire map was pacified and all objective points captured.

On an unrelated note, I was surprised to see that there are a few Gurkha units scattered among the bandits opposing the British. From my own reading, the Gurkhas were notoriously loyal to the British and were actually often employed to maintain order in India during civil disorder because of that - to the extent that there was some ill feeling towards Gurkhas by Indian nationalists at the time, who would accuse them of being instruments of oppression used by the British (see Quartered Safe Out Here by George Macdonald Fraser).

Was there any historical context for including Gurkhas among the violent rioters, or is it simply there to throw in a nasty surprise for people getting complacent about the enemies during the mission? Might it be more accurate to label them as Indian infantry of high standard and training, of which even by then there were several regiments - Indian regiments had fought very well in North Africa well before this, and of course later, in 14th Army, such Indian regiments made up the majority of what was probably the best trained jungle infantry of WW2, fighting at Kohima, Imphal, Mandalay, Meiktila and comprehensively defeating the Japanese. The rebellious soldiers could have been Jats, Sikhs, Dogras... any of those excellent infantry might have looked a little less jarring than seeing Gurkhas.

Gandhi also appeared on that miserable island in my game. Even the SAS boat troops, which are able to enter the water, are unable to land on that one hex island to perform their duty.

Strange. <SPOILER>
I finally figured out how to disperse the factory workers. It is not like Chess, it is more like a game of Checkers and Billiards (Pool).
Factory Workers must be dispersed back into a full city hex to count towards victory.
The direction they retreat will be exactly the opposite of the direction you attack. You need to do at least 6 points of damage to make them retreat. If it looks like your unit will do only 5 points to a full strength Factory Worker, soften it up with artillery as it usually does just 1 or 2 points. Then push. It takes patience but it also pays off - as follows:
Slowly pushing the Factory Workers back into their housing makes the rebellious Indian Army units and Bandits come after you. This means they start moving north and going after the Diplomatic compounds and your troops.
Do not disperse your troops. Keep them concentrated and destroy these rebellious troops at every opportunity.
<GANDHI> I have always had him appear at the HOSPITAL on the western peninsula. Never on the island.

By chess I meant the planning and pushing back of the king, but yeah checkers etc good. Just tried it again and this time only moved workers to huts, didnt do anything else and didnt use any troops, just got them into position to defend the admin buildings, then used MPs to disperse workers, now looking for Ghandi and he so is not on island :)
mikeydredd Aug 21, 2017 @ 1:27pm
Yep found Ghandi, far south. Seems the trick is to disperse workers, and not to "conquer" any terrotory until this is done, then defend the admin, then conquer and look for Ghandi
