1) Leman Russ (dozer blade upgrade) -- mainly because the dozer blade means it can cross rough terrain more quickly. All of its guns fire at a range of three hexes and it is very effective against infantry out in the open.
2) Destroyer (upgraded) -- this one is better against armored targets, and the fact that it can fire from four hexes away means that it can often avoid taking return fire damage.
The biggest problem I have with the heavy tanks is that they move so slowly, and they are almost never in the right position to hit the enemy when you need it most. I only ever use the heavy tanks for defense.
the destroyer is too situational for me as it's only really good at sniping ork armour, so i never have more than one or two of them, but to be fair they're very good and cost effective at what they do.
as for the super heavies, i found the shadowsword and baneblades to be the most effective, even though as mentioned their speed is an issue. but generally i also found them somewhat underwhelming in performance compared to leman russ tanks and later titans.
never used the macharius series, as by the time you get them in the campaign, you also get the super heavies. guess i need to play around with them more.
Yes, it is really only good at one thing, however there is so much Ork armor in the second half of the campaign that it is worth having at least one or two destroyers just for that purpose. I most often use them to finish off enemy battlefortress tanks that have already been damaged by my artillery.
The Macharius Vulcan is devastating against infantry, but it is too slow to be used in offensive situations. The best use for this tank would be to park it on a bridge, with some cheap infantry in front of it to protect it, and let it mow down enemy infantry as it tries to cross the bridge. In that one specific situation it would be very effective.
the upgraded annihilator does have a dozer blade though.
