If playing against a human player either create a rule to not allow this or keep an eye out for small unit amphibious assaults. They can create a lot of havoc in rear areas by tearing up
tracks, especially in the Middle East. The AI will not do this, but personally I love doing deep small unit raids.
BUY THE SPIES! They will eventually get caught but if your opponent buys them, especially playing against another human, they will be a thorn in your side, allowing your opponent to see what you are up to wherever they go.
Personally, I do not give up the German ships to Turkey. They are going to join in and keeping those to and joining them with the Aus/Hun fleet can be quite an asset. Keeping them will only delay Turkish entry for about a turn. If you are playing the Turks against the AI then storm Egypt. It's an easy prize that will hopefully be strengthened in a future patch. Take Egypt and then send your troops to the East where they can take out lots of Russians.
The Russian Revolution is not eventual, if you can keep your moral above 70. Good luck with that though ;)
That's a few things to chew on for now.

If Western Entente, get Great Britain in quick. Use major diplomat if Great Britain has not joined yet. After GB, use your major on Italy. Depending on how high your morale is, grant Italy concessions. They are a huge help to the Western Entente. After Italy, use your major diplomat on U.S.A. They are a great help when they join.
For your minor diplomats. I use them on Portugal - They aren't big, but they have a few formations you can use and/or build and use.
Don't waste your time trying to sway The Ottomans and Bulgaria. They are more or less going to go to The CP. I put a minor in Arabia immediately, and Greece, and Romania.
If you are the Western Entente, don't ignore Kuwait. When Great Britain joins, I usually ship the India formations to Kuwait, because the Ottomans are coming.
I have found the money decision does not hurt you that much on inflation. I wouldn't worry too much about it and I have played that decision about 4 times in my games. 2 each for France and Great Britain.
When Italy joins the Western Entente, ship some frenxch formations around South and then East into the Italian Front. It gives the Austrians something to think about. And build a lot of artillery, especially for Italy.
Most of my tips are Western Entente. I think you might want to attack Metz pretty early before they can get entrenched in there real good.
If you get a chance to promote a guy but someone else might be angered, if there is no morale penatly, I'd go ahead and do it. Victory points fluctuate a lot, and you really want a major victory, don't you? Promotions usually mean a general goes from a 2 star to a 3 star and then he can form an army. Nice.
In the East, take all those troops which start in Koenigsberg and combine them under Pritwitz, the second turn into the game he will be replaced by Hindenberg. Wait for the Russian 1st army under Rennenkampf to advance into East Prussia, also wait for the 2nd Army under Samsonov to advance towards Tannenberg to the West of Masurian Lakes.
At this point the Russian troops, who suffer from unbeievably ♥♥♥♥♥♥ generals and a cohesion penalty in August, maybe September as well, will be at your mercy. Play the event that locks all Russian troops in German territory, then take all those troops you've gathered into one stack and also made into a GHQ which allows for such a heavy concentration thereby creating a doomstack. Take Hindenberg and smash into whichever of the two armies looks to be weakest. It depends, Germany has a serious railroad network that allows them to attack either.
leave the corps to the southwest, he is your strategic reserve, only use him when you smash one of the Russian armies.
You'll end any Russian invasion into Germany for the rest of the war.
More to come, feel free to message me with more questions.
AH troops are TERRIBLE. Serbian troops are of very high quality which means unless Germany sends some of their corps and/or when Bulgaria gets into the war on CP side.
NEVER EVER try to fight the Serbian army with purely AH troops. They are all extremely tough and start off better than AH, not to mention that nearly the entire Serbian army is composed of veteran corps. So not only are your soldiers better from the get go, but they are also battle-hardened and therefore extraordinarily effective.
Potiorek was an absolute moron because he shifted the focus of his attack to the west. If he had simply attacked along the plains then he would have had a really good chance of simply overwhelming the Serbians. However, since the bulk of AH troops are on the western border of Serbia and directly across from Belgrade, the only way to attack is either across a river, across a river into the forest, or across a river then up a mountain. Not very good options.
This is why a successful assault on Serbia absolutely necessitates having German soldiers with the Bulgarians to from the east. Once the get into the war Bulgaria will flank the whole country and the Serbians are done. Unless you can retreat to Greece.
Unless this happens AH will never be able to beat you.
