12 times in 4 hours is too much...
1- Pride of Nations
2- Revolution Under Siege
But all AGEOD titles are good. Some however won't work smoothly on my old laptop.
for example : civil war 2, TEAW, WON
If you have a slow PC, TYW will run smoothly but it's of smaller scale/complexity than other AGEOD titles, and I would say less interesting. PON and RUS run perfectly fine on my laptop. PON is different. It's a grand strategy game and includes detailed economics/politics/research etc. Brilliant. Be aware that PON turn resolution are near infinite (20-30minutes) in mid-late game. You press end turn and go for some work.
Civil War 2 is a good game to get into the AGEOD mechanics tho for that particular thing i would say Revolution Under Siege is by far the best.....
to end all wars can be very slow at times as the times progresses....when the game goes into late game around 1917 a single turn can easily be up to 10 min waiting
- small map (as compared to WON or CW2 or RUS)
- Great conflict : nationalists vs republicans (Franco rules !! :-) )
- Very lovely art
- Very strategical
- Excellent performance even for a modest PC (which is rare with Ageod titles)
Espana 36 is a pure gem.
I don't see any performance issues with any of them, switching between them and playing each for an hour or two.
My preferred 'performance' tweak for all of them is:
1. play it in 1024x768 (or slightly above) in non-scaled fullscreen mode, so my shiny 1440p@144Hz monitor has to switch to 1024x768. Do not use the "Desktop resolution", imho.
2. And choosing cursor in software mode (hardware mode cursor in Windows is 'pinging' the screen constantly, since it is hardware accelerated and can cause frametime spikes every couple seconds ... or even more often = avoid).
3. After each start of the game, zoom out and move deliberately to all corners of the map, so the ALL the textures get loaded into the video framebuffer. This will ideally make moving around the map later much smoother.
In 1024x768, I can also read the fonts more easily.
All the AGEOD games will run on any 20-year old hardware - it's a single-core game running on Delphi via DXWrapper as I understand it.
I have not had a CTD (desktop crash) in any of them in all the years. Some seem to cause the AI to take longer, especially with later turns. But that has nothing to do with the user's hardware.
Theoretically, these games could easily run on Android 6 phones and tablets - hardware wise - or old Apple tablets. Somebody just needs to port them and put them on Google Play/Apple store (*cough, cough*).

Later they tried out new things but failed and also had lost their talented artist who had made those incredibly beautiful icons. The various guys who came after her were hacks and slapped together something with Photoshop that looked passable at best, and often unbearably ugly.
I also recommend Revolution under Siege which is a lot like ACW1 (it is available on Steam too) and maybe Espana 1936 which is quite interesting too.
Although as I wrote before nothing ever came anywhere close AACW 1
p.s: Just bought RUS.
It's also used by AGEOD players for "Revolution Under Siege"
Of course it is, that would make sense wouldn't it?
