What Atelier should I play if I want less sugary plot?
Hi, I haven't played any of the Atelier's games, but I saw that there are quite interesting mechanics of alchemy and creating super gear with that.

I tried Atelier Sophie 2 oneday, but deleted after watching prologue that retold the events of the first part because almost died of diabetes... it was too sugary for my taste.

I mean, I understand that this is a story about cute girls doing cute things, and I usually ok with this genre, but here they kinda overdid it. Is tehre any Atelier with more serious/mature vibes?

This one. You can check the free demo to see how, it covers roughly a quarter of the first chapter.

If it's not difficult, then can you elaborate why this part meets my criteria?

It's more about Alchemy being banned, so being a person who is shunned and hated. Everything she makes is eyed with suspicion at first as opposed to being a cute girl everyone loves because she makes things everyone loves.

you can also get Atelier Ayesha or basically the Dusk lineup

What UnknownFox said. Though you can kinda say the same about Ryza's story, it's more of a "weirdo creating weird things" whereas alchemy in Yumia is straight up taboo due to a mana disaster in the past claiming people's lives.

The game has a dramatic background, as you have already been told here, alchemy has generated a real catastrophe caused by people, who have misused it.
Which is why Yumia, although initially motivated, gradually discovering the truth, lives the situation with increasing sadness.
But we must be frank, I know it is difficult; this title has a pegi 12, so you will not find here, adult and mature content.

Thank you all for the answers. Guess i will try this game. And I certainly don't expect it to somehow become a dark fantasy with blood and all. Just a little less sugary. Something like blue reflection would be perfectly fine.

Not sure if this should be considered a spoiler but the ending did left me feeling it's very similar to how Blue Reflection ending turned out, though not to the same extent.

depending on which ending you got...

Either. It's rather what happens during the final boss fight.

really? like how I got 1 consistent ending from 4 attempts I suppose just do it normally and not what the game "wants you to do?"

so I attempted the boss once again... the ending... it changed...
