Unless they were made with alchemy.... Previous alchemists (Sophie, Firis, Ryza) made some pretty crazy stuff.

In an interview the producer explicitily said he wanted the devs to not think of it as an atelier game but as an open rpg, he also mentioned how much he wants a global audience and to appeal to the west so yes, you are correct this is barely an atelier game

As a grandpa from anchient times, when words had meaning, yes it was difficult.
It's basically just magic, but called alchemy.

It's more of a "that one girl who does alchemy in a world where it has been outlawed" kinda thing. The demo already mentioned the ruins where the team explores being from an ancient civilization that met its demise due to the widespread misuse of alchemy.

She hunts monsters, explores ruins of a destroyed civilization and crafts using materials she gathers. Sounds like Monster Hunter to me.
