Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land

Yumia > Ryza
Ryza had to use her body/sex appeal/thighs to sell a game. She also needed to steal a carbuncle from the final fantasy series and did it the most laziest way possible. Yumia doesn't need a familiar following her around either but at least it's original, both in story and design.

Yumia at least has a personality and she isn't Day 1 acting like a ♥♥♥♥♥ and bossing people around. She also develops actual relationships with the people she meets. She's not forced to carry people "because we're childhood friends". Regardless of what you think of the synthesis system, story-wise Yumia has to work hard to improve her alchemy, unlike Ryza who went about it with heavy narcissism.

Sophie is still better than both of them.

I loved ryza bratty personality (and growth) in ryza 1 actually.
wasn't fond on ryza 2 weak/self conscious personality instead.
yet to finish ryza 3 since yumia dropped when I had just started that one.
ryza care about her friends and help them whenever she can.
quite petty to attack her tights, how is that connected to her personality since it's the less fanservicy trilogy, design aside?

yumia is great for the reasons you mentioned, sharing a trait (caring for her friends) with ryza too.
also she dabbed in the forbidden (and EXTREMELY DANGEROUS) art ONLY for personal reasons, without even a teacher, risking to destroy the region again.
all for selfish reasons.

so light and shadows, like ryza.

Sophie also is great, but too much BFF BFF BFF with plachta for my tastes lol
Firis is best mysterious for me, Piana best arland and Willbel best dusk lol.
btw Patty best secret and Isla best Envisioned, just saying 😁

The Arland games would have been your personal Vietnam War
Assuming you're only talking character wise and not game wise, yeah, Yumia is "my type." Although I could do without the mopey sadness that she's stricken with for the first 1/2 of the game.

Sophie is adorable and saccharine sweet but she's more like a cute little sister you don't want to lose her innocence. Minus points for the dress too, you're an alchemist Sophie, get yourself some drip that doesn't have a flap along the bottom looking like you permanently ironed it wrong.
yeah sure let's just ignore Yumia looks worse than a Wuwa 4* character knock off :lunar2019laughingpig:
Ryza, Yumia, Sophie, all of them are fantastic and each have their own charm points.
Both are hot garbage so it doesn't really matter which piece of trash is less stinky now does it ?

Try harder for clown award!
Don't worry, the more a game deserves to be successful, the more piranhas pop up to devour them as if they were nice veal legs.
I really feel like this topic wasn't discussed or covered fully enough. Yumia was instantly the most iconic, most stunning Atelier in the entire series and she just doesn't get her due from the fans.

Ryza was a mistake. Yumia is where it's at.

Are you talking about the character or the game? The character, maybe. The game, absolutely not under any circumstances.

Sophie is a better character than Ryza for sure, but the Ryza games are all much better than Yumia. Yeah, Sophie 2 is the best of the entire franchise.

Perhaps, but would it kill them to make a more mature protagonist for once:

The protagonist should not be getting outdone by the backup.

Yumia is a good game, but having really only played Sophie and Ryza (was turned away by timers but looking into them now), can't say I was a fan of the alchemy. Seemed like it played a lesser role, I only really interacted with it near the end because I had to manually put in the ingots for 10+ atk +5 other stats. Granted my issue, the last 3 bosses ended so quickly.
