I enjoy it, so I'm gonna play it.
A lot of the games start out extremely simple and restricted, and new mechanics and layers of complexity are added as the game goes on, especially with alchemy.
If it turns out I hate all the changes and don't enjoy the game, then I will skip the next one if its done in the same style. I'm still cautiously optimistic, we'll see how it works out.
I just finished Atelier Meruru and started on Lulua, then this demo came out and I tried it and I'm having fun.
I like that there's base building aspects now and like that its making attempts at a more serious less cutesy story. The new alchemy system is...weird, as is the combat system, but I do like how your jumps have utility now and it seems fun to just run around and collect things to use at your atelier
I'll say this... What's the value in the opinions of a long time fan when they don't exactly acknowledge the fact that if change doesn't happen, the series won't grow? You can have your turn-based, but that's been done to DEATH at this point.
Alchemy will get better, you haven't played the full game to judge that yet.
Aesthetics change every game. I've said everything that's been on people's minds, but clearly there are some who simply don't like change. Go play Resleriana when it comes out, but I think I'll stick with the new direction because it actually changes what I felt were weaknesses of the series.
You can have it, but not with Yumia. YET.
Anyway - Needless to say I am a long time fan of the games. The only ones I have not played are Atelier Resleriana (I HATE gacha garbage always on-line games), Atelier Nelke (I don't like the SimCity style of games) and the remake of Atelier Marie (just not bought it yet, but probably will in a not too distant future).
And I played the demo of Atelier Yumia of course. And you know what? I like it. Plain and simple. So Izunyami, don't you dare to speak as if all "real" fans of Atelier games do not like Atelier Yumia. That's simply not true. Not by a long shot. You have seen the comments above, and I will add to it that the majority of people on-line think the same as myself and the people above. As far as I can see you are in the minority.
Of course you may have your opinion and say that you don't like the game, but don't act like you speak on behalf of the "Atlier Fans". You simply do NOT, and I do not want to be dragged into to your narrowed vision.
When you say babyfied...how different is it from Ryza's system? Does anyone have a good video of Yunia's Alchemy?
From the demo alone it feels like skills are nothing more than animations with a certain amount of uses that do nothing special but deal damage, it doesn't really matter in what order you spam them either apparently, I don't know if I'm missing something here. And early on you don't even have enough buttons to press, so you end just standing there waiting for cooldowns.. it's weird I'll say that.
Other than that I'm not convinced about the alchemy yet but I'll give it time, it's probably gonna get interesting later on.
