Dissapointing entry
As a huge fan of almost all previous atelier games with hundreds of hours in each title im very dissapointed in the direction the series has gone, i gave it a chance but the demo confirmed this game is a step in the wrong direction in all aspects, the babyfied alchemy, thougthless battle system, the overly-flashy over the top animations, etc. appear to try to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, its a shame but i will not be buying this game and i hope long time atelier fans dont support it either.

I mean you're entitled to your own opinion, of course, but it feels a bit odd to say "I hope long time atelier fans don't support it either"

I enjoy it, so I'm gonna play it.

supporting such changes would only encourage gust to keep this path forward and remove all unique aspects of the series to appeal to the mainstream

And that's for the customer base to decide. You casted your choice by removing yourself as a customer, but if everyone else is fine with it, then oh well, you're the minority

yeah i guess atelier fans are the minority nowadays gotta chase the wider audience

Or you're the minority amongst atelier fans and your narrow personal opinion doesn't reflect the majority of long term fans.

thats not for you to decide either, your opinion is just as irrelevant as mine, as far as fans go i am one and hope other fans like me dont buy it for the same reasons

I'm a longtime fan, and I'm keeping an open mind going into this.

A lot of the games start out extremely simple and restricted, and new mechanics and layers of complexity are added as the game goes on, especially with alchemy.

If it turns out I hate all the changes and don't enjoy the game, then I will skip the next one if its done in the same style. I'm still cautiously optimistic, we'll see how it works out.

Seems to me the only one whining and moaning here is you, the whole *i like it so everyone likes it too* is kinda played out, regardless game is deeply flawed and its not hard to see it for what it is old fan or not

I just finished Atelier Meruru and started on Lulua, then this demo came out and I tried it and I'm having fun.
I like that there's base building aspects now and like that its making attempts at a more serious less cutesy story. The new alchemy system is...weird, as is the combat system, but I do like how your jumps have utility now and it seems fun to just run around and collect things to use at your atelier

I'll say this... What's the value in the opinions of a long time fan when they don't exactly acknowledge the fact that if change doesn't happen, the series won't grow? You can have your turn-based, but that's been done to DEATH at this point.

Alchemy will get better, you haven't played the full game to judge that yet.

Aesthetics change every game. I've said everything that's been on people's minds, but clearly there are some who simply don't like change. Go play Resleriana when it comes out, but I think I'll stick with the new direction because it actually changes what I felt were weaknesses of the series.

You can have it, but not with Yumia. YET.

I AM a long time fan of the Atelier series. For me it started years ago with Atelier Iris on the PS2 (yes, I also played the Mana Khemia games). I switched to the PC and played all games starting with Atelier Rorona, Don't look at the amount of time played because I played the games off-line and also have a "alternative" version that does not need a Steam client (that's the reason I would LOVE to see these games on GOG, so I can use off-line stand-alone installers. And yes - I would buy all of them for a second time if they do that).

Anyway - Needless to say I am a long time fan of the games. The only ones I have not played are Atelier Resleriana (I HATE gacha garbage always on-line games), Atelier Nelke (I don't like the SimCity style of games) and the remake of Atelier Marie (just not bought it yet, but probably will in a not too distant future).

And I played the demo of Atelier Yumia of course. And you know what? I like it. Plain and simple. So Izunyami, don't you dare to speak as if all "real" fans of Atelier games do not like Atelier Yumia. That's simply not true. Not by a long shot. You have seen the comments above, and I will add to it that the majority of people on-line think the same as myself and the people above. As far as I can see you are in the minority.

Of course you may have your opinion and say that you don't like the game, but don't act like you speak on behalf of the "Atlier Fans". You simply do NOT, and I do not want to be dragged into to your narrowed vision.

Longtime fan here, loved the demo. Can't wait to play more.
I preordered all the Ryza games and loved those games Alchemy systems even if some of the other game aspects weren't the best. I'm very much on the fence about getting this one though, could be the first Atelier game I don't get in awhile...

When you say babyfied...how different is it from Ryza's system? Does anyone have a good video of Yunia's Alchemy?

I think the only thing I didn't like about the game (with just the demo as my experience) is the combat, it feels very.. button mashy? I believe that's the word that describes it the best honestly.

From the demo alone it feels like skills are nothing more than animations with a certain amount of uses that do nothing special but deal damage, it doesn't really matter in what order you spam them either apparently, I don't know if I'm missing something here. And early on you don't even have enough buttons to press, so you end just standing there waiting for cooldowns.. it's weird I'll say that.

Other than that I'm not convinced about the alchemy yet but I'll give it time, it's probably gonna get interesting later on.
