Graphics are not everything. Graphics look good enough to me.
In the end, to each their own.
This game doesn't compare *at all* to it.
The fighting system is completely different, for one thing. This has a decent fighting system, but it's not *nearly* as good as Genshin's.
But alchemy? Genshin has none. And alchemy is the entire point of this game. I can't imagine *anyone* buying this game if they aren't into the crafting mechanics in Atelier games.
You don't buy a fighting game for the shop-sim mechanics, and you don't buy an Atelier game for the combat mechanics. So it makes no sense to compare them.
Also: "it's not even dubbed"....yeah I mean....good. I personally at least really dislike Genshin's English VO. Also to be a bit cynical: You talk about the English Dub but...which one do you mean? Paimon? From what I remember the majority of cutscenes weren't even voice anymore because of the strike.
I feel like that one is a hot-take but to each their own. I never found Genshin's combat system very interesting by any metric. I played since sometime in the Liyue patches mostly active until start of Natlan, so it's not like I didnt experience it long enough. I feel like there is enough similar games, even other hoyoverse games, that do it better, but I digress.
They are not the same. At all.
Also I don't think Genshin has base building mechanics? Could be wrong, but this Atelier added some base building which is kinda cool. Also the combat system is radically different from Genshin's.
Its honestly bizarre to compare this to Genshin; why not compare it to other Atelier games, or at least other Gust titles?
- aren't into gambling
- don't want to their data to be wiped and access to the game being denied after EOS
- want to experience a complete story and gameplay experience without micro transactions
- want to play whenever they truly feel like it and not be held back by the game's systems
- don't want to miss out on content thanks to time-limited events
... just to name a few.
Gacha games like Genshin are much more expensive than this though.
They either ask for your wallet or your precious free time if you want to get anything done.
I have friends that would also think that this game is too expensive and at the same time would spend up to 100 bucks to get the latest event character without batting an eye.
It can be an endless pit for some people that tend to have addictive tendencies and there are way too many people out there who defend these companies. They earn so much yet they give us so little in return.
I don't think Atelier Yumia is a bad game. At all. Are 70 bucks for it too expensive? That's debatable. Just wait for a price drop if you think that's the case. You're not missing out on anything other than bugs that will hopefully be fixed in the upcoming weeks or months.
+1
While I personally think Yumia is overpriced, if Yumia and Genshin were the last two games available on Earth, I'd pick Yumia every day of the week.
Online only games are anti-consumerist nonsense.
Yes so many threads here not happy about the price, which is the Manufaturer Suggested Retail Price by the way, remember that this is a complete game that we're paying for with no gambling elements needed to experience all of its contents to completion.
