Game stuck on "waiting for computer"
I start a game with the cpu and after I take my move it says "waiting for computer" and it never makes a move. When I let the computer move first it never takes it's first move, it just hangs on the waiting for computer message. Have you heard of this issue?

I am using Linux btw. Ubuntu 16.10 with the padoka ppa for Mesa 13.1. My GPU is a Radeon r9 380X. My CPU is an AMD FX-8370e.

I have tried running the game in windowed and full screen, and have tried all variations of boards and backgrounds. I get the same result no matter what.

Now, it doesn't seem like a traditional freeze or lock-up, as it lets me look through the menus and interact with them and lets me exit game just fine as well. The only problem is that the a.i. never makes it's move. Thanks for your time.

Can't believe it's been 3 1/2 years since I posted this. It's funny that it took proton to fix this issue in a "native" game. But hey, I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, at least it's playable now.
So, solution haven't existed yet?
And it is still an issue. (Ubuntu 20.04)

Had the same issue when trying to play the game on my Steam Deck - got stuck on "waiting for computer". Then I tried what i_pk_pjers_i said:

Seems the "Steam Native Linux" version gets stuck on waiting for computer, but if you run the game with Proton (I am using Proton 5.0-6) playing against the computer works fine. Sadly you can't save games to PGN files but oh well.

So starting the game in Proton Version 5.x helps. I did that and changed in my game compatibility options from Proton Experimental to Proton 5.0-10 on the Steam Deck and since then everything works perfectly fine. Computer does his turns with no delays at all now.

Thanks!

Can confirm. Switching the "Proton version to 5.0-6" works on my Steam Deck

How to change Proton version for this game: Right click the game in your Library, click "Properties", the go to the "Compatibility" tab, select the option "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool", the under the scroll down menu below, select the version of Proton (in this case, version 5.0-6)

Yep, pretty regular occurrence for me. It mostly happens when I'm about to win a game.
"UCI error" tends to pop up when it freezes late-game.
