Stalemate is when on one player's turn, the king is NOT in check, but there are no legal moves. It is a draw.

If the AI had some pawns left and they were not blocked, they were probably pinned in place by one of your pieces (i.e., if the pawn moved, it would have placed its own king in check.)

I played a game, the AI had a King and 3 pawn left, the 3 AI pawn had a lot of move to do. And I was about to put AI check mate in about 3 turn. But the AI decide to stop the game with a Stale Mate? And it put a draw instead of a win for me. Why AI stop the game, the AI pawn still have alot of move they can do?
Haha, I just had the same thing, I found out what it was but was wondering why it counts as a draw and not a win

If you are stalemating often, I'd suggest attacking the king sooner.

Don't waste time capturing every last piece, just work on the pieces actively defending the king. If you have the material on the board to checkmate, then don't waste time queening pawns. Just go after the king.
