Are you guessing or do you know they were cheating for a fact? I don't doubt there's cheaters, I just wonder how you're so certain they're using hacks and engines?

I record. I use different chess engines for aftermatch game analysis, and believe me - the game is played by AI is two different things. All moves they have are coincides to moves that chess engine advises in the same situation. I do not believe that human can think in 10 moves depth in 5 seconds. I do not believe that human can make every move stronger than previous one. Even chessmasters can not show such kind of result. And of course ... All of the played games are stored in the BlueLine cloud, so it's not hard to analyze the games. In their games there is no average level. Usually they are playing either frankly weak or unimaginably strong. It looks like some blunt noob sometimes lets. Unfortunately, modern hardware makes such kind of cheating is ready-to-order for every freaking noob. There is no chances to mix up the game played by human player and the game played by AI.

As someone who has been playing chess as an enthusist IRL and online since the late 90s It was pretty common to find random players back then online who would load up a single play AI game and mimic the moves it did to them for the player to player game. its an old trick.

If they'll find the way to detect these kind of cheating then it'll be the first chess game i'll try playing with strangers. Otherwise they all cheaters

It's not something you can ever 100% detect. As, if nothing else, said person can have the AI chess on one computer / laptop / etc while they do their moves on another, or a phone.. You can't detect something when it's completely seperated like that.

And sadly this world is full of reprehensible scummy people who cheat at nearly anything and everything they can get away with.

It's very depressing.

Theoretically it's possible, by analysing the game replays. Like counting the moves that are the same as the engine would do, and maybe some machine learning algo to filter the results.

But I guess it's just too time consuming and there should be additional reason to develop something like that, getting an academic degree, for example...

Basically they end up having a computer to play for them against a computer or another person. Their job is just to click where they're told. They might as well leave the room...

Pointless.
