Chasm

Game is not starting
I just got the game, and it just won't boot. I have checked the forums and followed the following advice:

- Installed then repaired latest version of NetFramework (4.8)
- Disabled the Steam Overlay for this game
- Disabled real time protection on Microsoft Security Essentials

There is no folder "Chasm" in my documents
I get the following error when starting the game:

OK it does appear to be an issue with the new D3D support after all. Some changes have been made that hopefully fix the issue for you. Please ensure you are on the default branch and restart your Steam client, it should download the new update.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble! Which version of Windows are you using? Information about your hardware will also be helpful (please make sure your video drivers are up to date). I would also try deleting the game and reinstalling to be sure its not corrupt. Microsoft Security Essentials probably won't give you a hard time, but if you have Windows Defender you may need to make an exception for the game.

I m on windows 7 SP1, Windows Defender is turned off and only Microsoft security essentials is on. I just uninstalled and reinstalled the game, to no avail.

Current Geforce drivers are 425.31, they seem to be the latest version available for my 765m.

Please note that I just tried opting into the 2015 beta for backers, and this version starts flawlessly, if that helps about my specs fulfilling the game's requirements.

Starting this version of the game effectively created a Chasm folder in my documents.Current version of the game did not boot to get to this point apparently.

I bought the game in a bundle, so I cannot ask for a refund. I am sorry but if there is no viable solution for my issue, I'll have to give the game a negative review. I was looking forward to finally playing it after following it for a while, but this is unacceptable.

Can you please check the Event Viewer (eventvwr) to see if there is an Application exception logged?

Also, could you please try installing .Net 4.0 Framework (not the latest)? It's possible it may be required also. https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/Download/confirmation.aspx?id=17718

In the event viewer, just before the application error log, I get a .NET runtime event:

Application: Chasm.exe Framework Version: v4.0.30319 Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception. Exception Info: System.InvalidOperationException at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.FNALoggerEXT.FNA3DLogError(IntPtr) at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Graphics.FNA3D.FNA3D_PrepareWindowAttributes() at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.SDL2_FNAPlatform.CreateWindow() at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Game..ctor() at Chasm.ChasmGame..ctor() at Chasm.Program.Main(System.String[])

Followed by an application error:

KERNELBASE.dll
6.1.7601.23569

C:\Windows\syswow64\KERNELBASE.dll

I have reinstalled .NET framework after getting the first error, but it still doesn't work.

I cannot install the version from the link you have provided as I get the following prompt:

"Same or higher version of .NET Framework 4 has already been installed on this computer."

Thanks for the error message, I am working with the FNA framework folks to see what is going on. It recently switched from OpenGL to D3D11 so it may be a side effect of that.

Thank you for your efforts, I'll follow this thread in case there is anything new.
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Hi! Looks like your antivirus software stopping the game from creating a folder in My Documents (you can check to see if a Chasm folder is in there to confirm). I'd recommend disabling your antivirus software and see if it helps. Windows Defender older definitions will cause a false positive, so please make sure they are up to date.
