Are these rooms in the catacomb?
edit: oh ok... i find it
, it works 60% of the time everytime.
I bought the game for a metroidvania experience, tight controls, platforming, hollow-knight tier simple tight combat. Not for puzzles. The puzzle wasn't well-explained, because I had to enter a very branching path to find the sword room which contained the actual *hint* to finding the combination; making me repeat the exact same area twice as a result. That's the consequence of procedural generation, k?
I was at that point of the mindset that there was no inherent easy solution the game tells me about, especially because I read the log, which said, "just pull the lever". So I didn't think, didn't prepare for a puzzle exploration game, didn't remember the symbols, didn't realize the empty rooms weren't just secrets for later or pretty murals like in the Mines, but were actually the key combination, and one room was a very large distance away from the path I explored.
There, that's why I came here just asking for the key combination because I didn't want to risk having to go through the entire lower catacombs for who knows how many times until I found the solution. Wishwise also had to guess the star lock number. This isn't a problem with me, but with the game's design. If they had that sword room containing the logbook entry closer to the drop-down, I would've understood what the game wanted me to do.
100% agreed. I feel like this kind of stuff should be optional bonus content. Almost quit the game for a second there. :7
For people having trouble with it, how it worked for me was from the room where you fall from failing the combination, I went to the left, entered a room with a big white flying enemy, and past him there was a path that led back up to the lock room. I found the stars in the hallway leading up, found the cups in a lower passage on the west side of the hallway, and I found the swords far to the east of where I fell. Obviously procedural generation will cause the placements to be different, but basically, explore both side thoroughly and you should find the paintings you need. I actually kinda liked the puzzle, tbh, because it encourages exploration, and I like old style puzzles that force you to take note of little details like that.
