*EDIT* sorry, didn't see your note about not using two monitors...
Can you check that your display settings are reset to factory standard? If not maybe console has a some info from the logs.
The game must be played on windowed mode.
Thanks for the bit of info. However I can't even update because El Capitan doesn't work well with my college's website and I'm not too keen on failing because I wanted to play a game =\
*EDIT* Also I have tried windowed mode and everything suggested thus far and none of it worked.
*EDIT 2* Ok so situation changed and I was able to update and I did, but the game still doesn't work.
