Slander is constantly locked in Sultan's Palace, can't interact with it.
When you are visiting the sultan, there's up arrow and down arrow symbols to the right of the screen. These indicate the feelings of the nobles in attendance. If the down arrows outnumber the up arrows, you will get slandered. Also, it doesn't have to be you in court, any "noble" can go (you, your wife, Mahir, and Faraj if you chose the "1 noble friend" instead of "3 slaves" start). If you visit the bookstore with a noble follower, then they will give the other noble who is visiting the store at the same time up arrows as well, gradually improving your standing in court so you don't need to visit at all.
When the slander hits 3+, at the end of the week the sultan will assign you a difficult task. You may need to spend money, send a follower on a life-or-death fight, or in your case send him an attractive female follower. They will be unusable for 7 days and come back with an injury you can remove in the sanitarium.
The astronomy observations come from the telescope Mahir gives you if her first research request you fund succeeds. Put the telescope in methinks, and every 7 days it will give you a card you can spend as a consumable for a check (they usually give absurd stats like +5 magic +5 rerolls), or spend in methinks for a one-time event that offers various buffs.
So I noticed my wife getting upset, I did as I was told, put it in methink. We got into an event, I gave her something I bought from the merch and then she changed color? from green to silver. Was wondering how to do so to other characters? can I do it for mine? Also, I tried to gift her something (Gold rarity Pomegrnate Garden) but the resentment wouldn't be solved. Why is that?
I managed to break 7 cards already, but I reached a point where I have a gold Carnality and I can't seem to find a way to break it. I have no events on my map (except Escape From Sultan) and the other normal events. Some mentioned that I should focus on Bookstore, but a couple of cards after, the bookstore is gone and I can only get books by going in an event with that dude.
I also managed to get ALOT of people in my party but like there's not enough events to dispatch them.
Also, is the only way for me to level up my character is by reading books & equiping items from merch?
Thanks in advance and excuse my (VERY) long reply :D
You can upgrade many other characters by doing their quest lines.
Don't rush breaking cards if you want to experience full endings and side quests. It's more beneficial to stall. It's even more beneficial to later buy extra low tier cards at the Fate's Ledger.
Ways to break gold Carnality is either requesting the Sultan's gold concubine at court (involves a tough task after that), or make your wife's card gold in Fate's Ledger. Later some other characters can become gold, but keep in mind they gotta have passion to use that card without consequences.
You can also upgrade characters through Mysterious Assistance event that appears now and then. Other ways are reading books, buying items, building a guesthouse (use Extravagance card to renovate your house) and training with trainers there. Some events also grant boosts to stats afaik.
Yea, it's how it is. You can always try making them busy by sending them to earn money - put money in Methinks. To buy books, go to the baths and court to get intelligence cards. You can also use intelligence cards on Methinks to spawn an event to get even more intelligence cards.
You can also put Mehir in Methinks repeatedly so that she'd do researches resulting in useful items (can also use Extravagance while doing it). Such as a device needed for escape endings, for example. A mechanical horse to run horse bets. Or hot air baloon to break gold Extravagance card. Etc.
Habib the cook can also be put to use to invent new food dishes, but ingridients are very limited, so maybe once or twice.
Awesome reply. This pretty helpful. I reached a dead end in my last playthrough so I started a new one and it is def getting better with your insights. It's just I have even more questions, if you don't mind me asking.
First, how do i start a questline for a specific character?
I also did as you told. Request someone at the Sultan's court for Gold Carnality and the girl was named Zazie or sth. I gave her whatever she wanted, she requested some stuff and I have 14 days to bring the other stuff and I feel like the wording on the stuff she wants is not specific? like I don't know how to get these stuff?
Also, when the Sultan is out of his court there's this mini game that requests some stuff, such as The Great Taboo. What is that?
I also always manage to get the card 'Intent to Rebel' but whenever I use it on methinks he says Collect 3. I don't know how to get more of that? (Silver Card -- I also have 3 cards of stone with Fear of The Sultan)
If there's a guide you can throw at me because I feel the wording on blank cards is a bit hard to understand, and I always seem to have even more questions after finishing a playthrough.
Again, thank you for your indulgence. Any tips or tricks would be beneficial.
Starting questlines usually involve hidden stat triggers, like having enough renown notoriety etc. A fairly straightforward one is with Jabal, one of the Sultan's guards. If you hold on to a stone or bronze conquest card for a few days, he will ask you to let him break it for you. You can agree, and join him on the hunt. Doing so gives you the "familiar fighting style" memory. Then when you hit notoriety 7ish (not sure exactly), you get the "fights in the dark alley" event. Attend, and your memory of the familiar fighting style will let you realize that a masked fighter is Jabal. You steal his mask, then can use it in methinks to blackmail him into joining you. He'll ask for another fight in the dark alley, and I think you have to win to recruit him. There's a lot of chains like that, and you'll probably never get enough stats to see all of them in one run. Also helpful is just having the characters do things they like, like sending Adila to fights or having Lumera read books, I think that helps move things along.
The Zazie quest is super obtuse, I haven't even completed it yet. I can only assume it either has something to do with the nameless swordsman, or the merchant you are renting a house to.
The Great Taboo is tied to intent to rebel. When you recruit certain followers, Zaki Fatuna Qais Faradak and probably a few I'm forgetting, you get a chance to share your conviction with them. If you show them intent to rebel, you get a stone "fear the sultan". Merging 3 fear the sultan in headless dragons nets one bronze freedom from fear, 3 freedom from fear gives you one intent to rebel, and 3 intent to rebel becomes Regicide Plot, one of the convictions you can use to overthrow the Sultan. *None* of this matters if you do not meet with Nawfal during the early turns, without using a sultan card on him (although if you have intent to rebel you probably did that). There are lots of faster ways to get intents to rebel than just this way, but finding that stuff out for yourself is part of the fun :D!
When in doubt, throw a card in methinks. It works out better than you would expect a lot of the time, especially regarding Mahir's inventions. If you have a slot and you don't know what goes there, right click on it to highlight the cards in your hand that could be used. They don't always pan out (using spare mansions in managing your estate is allowed but doesn't do anything), but it will help you stumble to success at times.
I think i'm at something like 30-40 playthroughs now, and there's always more and more and more to discover. I got to the point where I bought the 16 extra sultan cards in fate's ledger (1 copy of each, at every rarity) to stretch the time to play to the limit.
