Sultan's Game

On the depravity in this game
The core mechanics are solid and even entertaining. But they fade into the background compared to the sheer depravity this game presents. Don’t get me wrong — I’ve slaughtered millions of innocents for the greater good or made evil RP choices in countless other games. But here, the most vile, abhorrent acts are unavoidable, essential, and without any alternative.

And then it’s all wrapped in a glossy package of Sultans and Arabian Nights fantasy? Disgusting

Dumped down for you: The gameplay is awful and not enjoyable for anyone with even a bit of taste
You come to play a game about navingating bad choices under a horrible tyrant that forces you to play a depraved game and complain when you get exactly what it said on the tin. Strange man. Well, we "tasteless" freaks can appreciate this contrived trolley problem at least...
Please don't play GTA.

GTA is fine. It is satire. This games lacks any irony. Have you played it? Have you enjoyed to have to rape your wife or it's game over?
dude is trying to be Socrates and argue why a game that's supposed to force players to make difficult decisions among dilemmas is the way it is...

my friend, do yourself and everyone else a favor: Don't play the game. Put it in your ignore list and never come back.
Ah yes...yet another person complaining about a game they never intended to play.

There was probably a perfectly good pack of wild, man eating dogs you could have used instead. Skill issue, tbh.

I don't understand why u guys are so harsh to him. Maybe bor just triggered an event in the game, bringing up painful memories, like bor's wife running away with the money and cook.

thats the point, op. the sultan is depraved, and inflicting the game on someone is part of that depravity. the goal is to escape the game. go learn some media literacy.

I understand why OP & others would have an issue. For my 2 cents, the reason I grant this game grace is due entirely to framing. Despite not being fully itemized, the game does have basic trigger warnings for the sort of content possible to be encountered, said warnings being both on the Store Page and within the game itself on boot up before even the main menu. That said, unless I’m missing it, this game & a lot of games generally IMO could use an additional option for a full itemization of possible triggers for those who don’t mind being spoiled if it means dodging something specifically upsetting. The game's conceit however is ultimately that the depraved actions are not validated or glorified. The game within the fiction is a tool of abuse & torture wielded by the Sultan (& royalty generally) against the populous and beyond simply survival, the player’s priority is to end the game or at the very least try minimizing the possible harm the game by its nature causes under the circumstances lest the game corrupt you as much as it has the unfeeling, desensitized ruling class. True that the game is not satire but I personally don’t believe that satire is the only context that disturbing & challenging subject matter can be explored.

I also understand why the obvious mythic Middle Eastern/Arabic setting might put some off with the belief that the game is vilifying those cultures & their history. The devs could absolutely have gone further into mythologizing its setting to attempt completely separating it from any IRL ethnic groups or cultures. Though personally, as a fan of 1001 Nights which the devs cite as a major inspiration, that text & those stories aren't free from several of the same elements that the game includes. The framing story that forms the entire foundation of the collection of tales revolves around a woman trying to avoid being the next disposable wife in line for execution at the cruel whim of the king (the word “sultan” being explicitly used in some translations) she is coercively indulged to marry for the sake of ending the wanton bloodshed & slaughter of her peers/community. Similarly in the game and very much like 1001’s Scheherazade, the player character is someone considered lower born than a royal who puts themselves in the path between an inhumane royal & his innocent subjects for the sake of trying to stymie or outright end a tragic fate for the populous. Death, murder, adultery, sex, abuse, crime are elements that play a role at different measures & contexts not only within the game but 1001 Nights itself.

That's funny. Apparently, the player character has to engage in homosexual acts later in the game.
These edge-lords in this thread have no problem doing vile ♥♥♥♥ to others—because "it's just a game."
But the moment it hits them, they ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lose their ♥♥♥♥.

So, yeah, this game is not for me, but it is more nuanced than I have thought.
