Tip: Use tag mode to unlock costumes faster

You can unlock (non-DLC) costumes by winning the Fight\Arcade mode with each character. If you play solo mode, you have to go through 8 stages, each of which requires 2 wins to progress. So that's 16 wins to unlock a costume for one character.

If you play tag mode, you only have to do 5 stages. You only need one win to progress to the next stage, though you have to beat 2 opponents to win. So effectively you need to beat 10 characters to complete Arcade Tag mode. When you do win, you'll unlock the next costume for each of the two characters you picked for your team.

Edit: Max0rz suggests using playing Survival Tag mode instead of Arcade mode.

Survival Tag can be quicker since it's still 10 wins total, but you skip the victory/intro video in between fights. You also benefit from having consistent walls to do extra damage.

The only downside to Survival is if you happen to lose, you'll have to start all over. With Arcade Tag you can use "Try again" to continue from the stage you left off. Survival mode also means you have to beat all 10 opponents on one set of lifebars, though you get small health boosts when you beat someone. It's a bit more challenging, but keep in mind you unlock costumes at any difficulty, so you can just plow through Rookie mode as long as you're a half-way decent player.

*Bottom line:*
Tag Match gets you 2 costume unlocks for beating 10 characters, vs. getting one unlock for beating 16 opponents in solo.

Fwiw.. if anyone is doing this mode and noticing a stutter or pause when starting matches, head over and give some input on this thread - we're still trying to narrow down exactly what's causing it in a few modes (Arcade Tag being one of them):

Still a massive grind. Some characters have only a few unlockables, but others, like the returning roster members have tons to unlock each.

I just figured I'd mention it, since originally I wasn't sure that Tag mode would unlock for both characters. Plus I was surprised that Tag mode is actually much shorter by itself (only 1 round instead of best of 3, as well as only 5 stages instead of 8). Tag mode makes it 3.2 times faster than solo, not just twice as fast.

I already knew this also, but if this thread is of any indication, you helped at least two people. Worth it.

I suggest Tag Survival for a couple of reasons:
- No transition between fights
- "Walls" make for easy damage and combo's

so i must do it in every mode(arcade,time,survial ) and i thats all?
Im just asking cause Im right now playing on the highest difficulty with eryone because i dont know wich difficulty i must do.i think beginner its not enough 4 some costumes.

but i only unlock 4 each charackter right. Or its possible to unlock more when i just rematch after I finish?(not legendary)

Just play tags ( acrade time survial ) easy and switch the character around like example play kasumi and Ayane and then Ayane and Kasumi it should unlock costumes.

Huh?

Every time you win in arcade mode (or timed mode or survival mode) you unlock one of the costumes for the character you use. If you do it in Tag mode then you unlock one for both of the characters you used. Different characters have a different number of costumes.
