About Tai Chi.. it is trained slow, but once upon a time it was used as a regular martial art and fast.
http://deadoralive.wikia.com/wiki/Dead_or_Alive_5_Last_Round
Nyotengu=Tengu Do
Akira and Kokoho=Baji Quan
Jacky=Jeet Kune Do Variant
Sarah=Jeet Kune Do Variant with Flamenco Stances
Lisa/LaMariposa=Lucha style of Wrestling
Bayman and Leon=Sambo
Kasumi, Alpha 152, Phase 4, and Ayane=Mugen Tenshin
Marie Rose=a girl from Swedishstan who knows Spetznaz type of martial art. I blame Premier Alexei Romanov from Command and Conquer 2
Brad Wong=Drunken Fist
Cyber Raidou=Modified Mugen Tenshin with stolen techniques from other fighters
Ein and Hitomi=Karate (not sure if its shotokan or shorin ryu either)
Now, I m gonna look at Kite's cheat sheet to see if my guesses are correct. Tai chi quan is a slow form of exercise at first glance but if you execute it while fighting someone you ll be kissing the floor before you land the first punch. So yeah thats Leifang's department.
We need a Yoshinkan Aikido and Sumo practitioners. Cmon Tecmo Coy I know ya wanna. XD
I believe Sarah's is listed as MMA but it seems kick boxy to me.
Ryu uses Ryu.
Momiji uses some Ryu taught Nin-aikijutsu or something.
Helena uses something with a long azs name.
Rachel uses brute force.
And the reason why Lei Fangs tai ji quan looks fast is because you probably envision the old people exercise version of it and not the combat version which is full of grapples and throws.
Honoka uses sharingan.
And Lisa also incorporates Capoeira in here moves and stance.
Hayate also uses Mugen Tenshin.
Gen fu and Eliot use hard to pronounce/read named martial arts.
Hayabusa - Hayabusa Ninjutsu
Momiji - Hayabusa Aikijutsu
Mila - Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)
Christie - Some kind of Snake style
Hayabusa using Dragon Ninja Clan Ninjutsu
Despite of her father, Bass, is a wrestler, I'm sure Tina is MMA based on her conversation with Mila. Thus they become friend :D.'
Gen Fu n Eliot using same KungFu, But I sometime see Gen Fu are in Praying Mantis stance.
I know Hitomi using karate coz she always doing "osu!".
XD I tot Akira using karate since he always in karate garb.
If there is Sumo practitioners. That's gonna be the 1st heavy weight lady in DOA.
Also, translations in English of some characters' moves would be nice;)
I heard this story in a DOA5LR players match lobby recently. Not sure if its true or not either so here goes. The storyteller went to his local Chinese food place. The thing that caught his attention was the sign that read," if you have eaten x amount of portions, you get the meal for free!" So he took the challenge.
Hours later, he was able to eat the portions however the restaurant had one more trick up their sleeve. He must defeat a sumo wrestler in a fight and he must win 3 times. He called bs but took the challenge as well because he was also trained in Baji Quan.
The storyteller had to dress up in traditional sumo gear which was humilating. To add salt to an open wound, he was led to the backyard of the restaurant which had a sumo ring and was packed with spectators!!
When he was on the ring, he had to fight an old man who was built like Hercules! The referee explained that he must outwit or overpower the old man once on a ring out or get him off balance 3 times then the food is free.
The match started and the storyteller charged the old guy to which the old guy sidesteps videogame style and countered with a judo type throw. Match point goes to the old man. The old dude did the same thing again as soon as the storyteller got up.
Final round. The storyteller didnt have chance against the old guy. If he cant think of something, he must pay the bill. He then noticed someone in the audience. A lady who was cheering for the old guy. She was rooting for him louder than the spectators. He assumed the lady was his wife. So with a devilish grin he got up for one last shot at the old guy.
Soon as the round started. The storyteller pointed to the spectators and said that the old man's wife was showing everyone her breasts as she was cheering. He took advantage of the distraction and pushed the old guy out of the ring.
The old guy called the story teller out on his bs but accepted his loss and got the food for free. To this day, the storyteller had regret that he had cheated but he did what he had to.
So in conclusion, sumo wrestlers dont have to be as heavy as Akebono. They can be chisled or have different weight classes.
