Save progress lost?
Just saw a small patch updated, when I launch the game it runs like it's my first time launching game. I can't quick start, all of the information in the ammo book is gone (like I have no info on the bosses/enemies i've beaten, etc.) Also, whatever that little shop money is called that carries over from run to run is back to 0....very frustrated I only have 2 hours in the game so not a humongous loss overall but is there something I'm missing here?

Where can I find the save data for this game? That way I can check to see if it's even there...

Sorry to hear that! The patch process will only affect the game directory, not the save directory, so there might be something else going on. There's info about the save directories here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/311690/discussions/1/371918937283617067/ Can you check there and see if you have save files and possibly a backup to restore?

If you are on Mac, there was an issue that we just fixed where a small number of people had saves appearing in the wrong directory. This update fixes that and *should* move the saves if they were in the old directory, but maybe something is off. The correct save directory for mac is:

~/Library/Application Support/Dodge Roll/Enter the Gungeon

Though some people had saves in:

~/Library/Application Support/unity.Dodge Roll.Enter the Gungeon

Please let me know if this helps!

Problem solved! My PC currently runs windows 10 from an SSD and I use a 2TB HDD for storage/games, and so on. When I searched the save directory on my SSD I found my save and two backups. When I tried using a backup, same issue was happening. Then I decided to dig around the HDD and found that a new Enter the Gungeon save folder had been created on my HDD. That was what was trying to load each time I launched the game.

Copied the contents of the SSD folder into this new location and immediately recognized and back in business. May be something to keep in mind if more people are saying they have lost their save after this recent patch. In addition to wrong directories on MAC, you might have people who have a setup like mine on Windows where a new directory has been created on a different drive. Thanks for the links Rubel, love the game and thanks for support.

The game still tries to find 'unity.Dodge Roll.Enter the Gungeon' and you get a blank screen if it does not (I did not have it).

Creating that folder solves the problem, but then the save file is wiped. I'm guessing it always assumes the folder is the wrong one and then it erases the right one.

Do you have save files (SlotA.save, etc) in either of these directories? If so, copying them into the correct ( ~/Library/Application Support/Dodge Roll/Enter the Gungeon) folder *should* allow the game to find them.

Moz, good call! This is the problem, and is related to a change we made yesterday, though I didn't realize it was going to cause this issue for those with multiple drives set up like this! So if I'm understanding correctly, you have two drives that each have a Users/<username>/AppData directory? Do you have one you feel is the "correct" user directory and one that is extra, or do apps seem to use both?

Would you mind opening a file explorer and just entering %APPDATA% into the URL bar and telling me whether that opened your HDD or SSD? How about %USERPROFILE%?

Also, do you know if Steam cloud sync was picking up those files in the HDD or SDD location, or both?

Thanks for the info!

Rubel, entering those url bar locations defaulted to my storage HDD. The OS is located on my SSD and is where MOST games typically create their save data locations. I think of the SSD as the "correct" directory, and when I first installed Gungeon a couple days ago, it did create the save directory on the SSD. With that patch yesterday, it seems to have decided to create a new directory on the storage HDD. I fixed my issue by just copying the SSD directory to that newly created HDD directory and the game immediately recognized the save and my progress.

I should also say that the Gungeon game itself is installed on the storage HDD.

To be fair, I built this PC myself years ago and upgraded parts several times, so at this point there are probably a lot of directory conflicts that a normal user with a pre-built PC might not have to deal with.

Alright, I just pushed an update to the public_beta branch for the Windows build. Would you mind switching to that and testing that it starts using your SSD again? Note, if you want to keep your new progress, you'll have to copy your files back over... sorry for the inconvenience!

(Just right click the game and go to Properties > Betas and select "public_beta").

Tried the public beta and that seemed to load from the SSD save properly. I got rid of that other HDD save folder just to be sure it wasn't still going from that, definitely seemed to be back on track at least as far as my configuration is concerned. Thanks for the quick updates.
