Charge shot... vanished?

I was using the charge shot weapon for room clearing and I ran out of ammo. I swapped to my starter pistol to finish the room. I got an ammo drop for clearing the room, but when I went to switch back to my charge shot it simply wasn't there. I only had 3 weapons, and I know I didn't drop it, it simply vanished....

What might have happened is you accidentally tossed the gun away — holding the LMB while holding an empty weapon throws that weapon.
