Old Knight's Flask use on same frame as death

So I was playing two player and used the Old Knight's Flask at the exact same time as I died, and so couldn't be revived by the friendship cookie because player 1 had a heart of health. But I still dropped all my stuff and turned into a ghost just like being dead. Then when the second player died in the sixth floor boss the game scrolled way off the edge of the level and didn't go to the game over screen.
