Did anything happen to shrines?

I remember some years ago when this game was still "fresh", I got quite a lot of shrines in my runs. Almost every other floor had them, most often the Glass shrine. The Blank shrine or the one that gives random effects also appeared quite frequently.

I don't play this game a lot anymore, but I started noticing that recently, shrines have become very rare in my runs. Sometimes I don't even get a single shrine in my entire run, which is especially annoying since I'm trying to complete the Beholster shrine. Even after dozens, maybe even hundreds of runs at this point, I only managed to give 2 weapons to the Beholster shrine.

I don't even do anything special, I use a normal character, do a normal run and that's it. I have 100%ed this game already, the Beholster shrine is the only thing I still wanna finish some day, even if there's no real reason to.

Did this game receive some sort of patch that reduced the chance of getting shrines or something? Or is there anything I can do in-game that increases my chances of finding them?

Thank you for doing the research and providing an actual answer. I was curious to the answer myself after reading the OP's question. I'm also attempting to complete the Beholster Shrine.
