-Hunter has a decent starting gun, her crossbow is reasonably good, and the dog gives you free stuff. I guess you could say that you need a new gun early less than others thanks to her crossbow being pretty good out of the gate, but nothing of hers points her in one direction or another.
-Convict gets a temporary damage increase whenever they take damage, but you don't really want to try to lean on it much. Her starting weapon has the highest damage of the 4 if you spam the shoot button and hit with every shot (but terrible accuracy), so in that way she's kind of a close-range specialist, but it's more that you want longer range weapons to make up for this weakness. For what it's worth, I almost never use her starting shotgun for combat.
-Pilot has the worst starting gun, but gets shop discounts and has a chance to effectively get free keys with his active item, as well as carrying a second active item. He ends up being the most likely to snowball thanks to more and cheaper items, but doesn't really have a "playstyle" as such.
Realistically, the only character of the starting 4 that would change any decisions you might make would be the marine, picking low-accuracy weapons that would be better for him than the others. But for the other 3 (and really for the marine as well), it's less that the characters have any particular playstyles that you want to try to make choices to actively lean into, and more that you'll have different experiences and opportunities thanks to the character you're playing.
The Hunter Starts with an Extra gun, Has a Decent Starter and A Useless Item in the form of the dog that does nothing or digs up trash like HP. From Personally Experience I got Nothing from that Garbage Dog
The Convict has an Okay Starter and Terrible Second. The Item induces rage and reloads your weapon but you have to be hit to trigger it. The Active is Decent, but Dangerous.
The Pilot is junk. Personal Opinion. I don't ever find Items in the Shop decent or affordable. the Active is RNG and Negative and Needs to be Replaced Fast, the Starter Pistol is Super Trash with poor RoF and Accuracy. The Extra Storage is okay for extra ammo and space for another, Better, Active but the other Item is Just Trash. I don't care for Discounted Items, Unless I see Trorc or Cursula.
A thread getting old, I know, but I thought I throw my 2 Cents in.
