Question about unlocking gunslinger

I beat all the original character's past.

I have paradox unlocked.

I haven't gone to bullet hell yet.

Do I need to beat bullet hell once to do the paradox run?
Or can I do the paradox run straight away?
I'm doing it on the pilot to try and get to bullet hell.
