How to find those tricky false walls/secret doors and hidden rooms.
I recently replied to a comment about finding the hidden/secret rooms. The rooms in which the walls crack, and you need a blank to open. NOT the entrances to the secret dungeons, as there is plenty of guides and discussions about that.

Please give this a read and let me know what you think. It's not really a guide, just my observations and general thought about finding and revealing these rooms. Though I may make a guide, with screenshots for easy visual perception, in the future.

Almost every weapon, when hitting a hidden wall enough, will slightly crack and change the way the wall actually looks. Even enemy weapons can reveal and crack a hidden wall. Use a blank to blast them open and get the goodies. (starting weapons, those with infinite ammo, can not reveal or crack a wall). You can still try to pop a blank straight away and test your luck.

Starting weapons can't reveal secret doors anymore. This was patched out in the last update. They never showed cracks - the guns with infinite ammo - but they did show a different visual effect when striking a hidden wall.

I believe non-starting weapons (and the starting shotgun/bow that has ammo), still have this visual effect, a different one than that of striking normal wall. Speaking generally, when shooting a normal wall, it gives a smoke "poof". Other weapons may have a different effects. Beam type weapons do not work for a visual reference. Try to use a projectile based weapon. Try breaking a lantern. and shooting it, to see the "hidden wall" visual effect with your current weapon. The effect is also visible when shooting enemies.

On a side note/P.S./whocares, you will get the visual effect on the wall that leads to the secret DUNGEONS. You cannot crack/open these walls with guns or blanks, you have to find the secret buttons

There is a way to tell - sort of like Isaac - where a room is, but it may be more time consuming and irritating to look for...sometimes.

Every secret room I've ever found or seen, is always a straight shot from a room. Never a curved hall or short hall. It's a fairly long hall and is always followed straight. Because they are straight, and with a decent sized hall, they can't spawn in the direction of a room if it's fairly close. Check for the empty space required for the room, before you waste ammo trying to open a solid wall.

I've also never found more than 2 secret rooms on a single floor. Although, like Isaac, there is always at least one per floor.

Another good way to visually check, without wasting ammo, is that the wall generally looks pretty bare. As far as I know/seen/found there was no hanging pictures, no lanterns, no barrels, no books, etc. Nothing to get in the way or actually try to "hide" the wall.

Be sure to check the entrances and halls connected to the room you are in. Search spots in the walls where a hall or door could actually be. Some rooms can only spawn doors in certain spots, try looking opposite of where a door already is.

A good percentage of secret walls can be found directly connected to item/chest rooms.

I've never found a secret room connected to the starting room, boss entrance/fight rooms, or the shop. Though you are welcome to try and find out. I would love to know what everyone finds.

I found plenty in the shop, but they're kind of easy to spot, they tend to only happen when there's an extra "hole" in the wall, kind of like the beggining of a tunnel.

Hope this helps someone :)

Sweet thanks man! I've tried to shoot some of these, but it turns out the shopkeep doesn't like it much. I will try to pop a blank and try next time.

They do seem somewhat frustrating to locate unlike the isaac ones where there are very specific easy to spot rules for them. Maybe someone will figure out the exact spawn mechanics at some point for EtG. Here's hoping.

Yea they aren't surrounded by rooms or anything so easy to understand, unfortunately.

Looking for the space for a straight hall then a decent sized room is usually a good rule of thumb.
