In my experience, there is always a fireplace and at least 1 water barrel on the first floor. Usually the water barrel spawned in a garden room (bushes, flowers, grass floor, etc).
Also had one spawn in the Twins boss room too, that didn't last long.
(Note- I own this on PS4)
Maybe it was in the shop, maybe it was in the room after the boss, the room with the elevetor for the next floor.
There's always 1 water barrel, more often than not there are 2 too
Agreed, what pisses me off more than having to go through the hassle of unlocking each secret level, is that they require keys on top (second one not always, though, but you can only get to it if you do the first, anyway).
I just cheat and give myself enough extra keys to open Oubliette and another one for opening the Old Crest room when it's locked. Sick of being bled for so many keys early on and having to grind runs that give you enough.
Annoying as hell tbh, I really wish the barrels would be looked into
Water barrels should either spawn in bigger numbers and/or be invulnerable to enemy shots (after all there is very, very little that they add to strategies, especially that early-game and even if you have electrified rounds).
