Can you quit and pick up where you left off?
Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I got to the 2nd floor and needed to stop playing for a while. I didn't see anything about a checkpoint or save (I know it's a rogue-like) so quit to desktop. I came back later and noticed a 2 in the upper right, but I was back in the Breach selecting a character and couldn't find anything suggesting my previous progress was still there.

To be clear, I'm not asking for a save game option, I know it's a rogue-like. I play many and enjoy them, but I am hoping for some sort of internal checkpoint system that gets cleared on death.

Is there no way to stop playing in the middle of a run and come back to where you left off? Or am I missing something? Not being able to walk away from a game if/when I need to is a deal breaker for me and I'll be asking for a refund.

So it does appear you have to play each playthrough in one long sitting? No stopping for a while and coming back later?

Sadly there is no saving at the moment

Nope, no save feature as of yet.

K, thanks. Refund time then. Wasn't asking for/wanting a save feature per se. Just at least some sort of checkpoint system. I can never guarantee even 30 minutes of continuous time to play...
This is indeed a very good feature this game doesn't have. Have the devs spoken about this?

I don't think a save feature will ever be implemented into this game. You all said it clearly, it's a rogue-like game. The only "progress" feature as of now is the fact that you can, through some absolutely hellish tasks (like beating the first boss without getting hit once), unlock shortcuts to each chamber. The little numbers in the upper right corner of your screen when you're in the Breach are a currency you get from defeating bosses, which can be used as you progress far into the game, after unlocking "citizens" of the Breach. They will sell you stuff, presumably guns and items, to use temporarily.

A save&exit feature has already been confirmed to be coming, no idea why it was not a thing to begin with considering how long runs can get in this game. Also i don't know where the hell you people keep coming up with this "there's no saving in roguelikes" bs, do you actually play any modern roguelikes? TOME and ADOM offer saving, just to name a couple. There's no option to make your own saves and savescum, yeah, but they all let you save your run and quit if you need to take a break.

yeah just one save for a run would be great just in case you have to stop playing

Ideally you would end up with something like ADOM or Nethack do which is allowing you to save pretty much anywhere (out of combat in this game) and then just delete the save when you die. Either way, I'll check back in a few months to see how things have progressed I guess.

Howdy

Add your voice to the following thread, trying to get everyone who wants this there. As mentioned already had the dev reply to say it is on their roadmap, however the more voices the better for hopefully getting it implemented sooner :)

Just after a "Save and Exit", so it is still one run and one life, but you can at least leave your run and come back to it later. That's the request anyway :)
