Ruby Bracelet and throwing guns

How do you throw guns for the sake of the Ruby Bracelet, and if you can't throw guns, does the Ruby Bracelet even do anything.

Guns can only be thrown when they run out of ammunition. I've never had this happen when using the Ruby Bracelet.

You just press and hold the fire butting while holding an empty gun.

Some guns are "thrown weapons" like the banana, in order for it to be useful you need a weapon that technically is thrown, not in the literal sense.
