I've had it a couple times and I don't believe I've seen it do anything. Is it worth it to pick up?

It's more apparent when you clear rooms with few (if any) shots.

It's always something to grab on the ground. In the shop? Debatable, just like any other item.

It doesn't create ammo pickups on the room, it just slightly replenishes the amount of ammo you have left for that particular weapon directly. Keep looking at the ammo counter while you kill enemies and you'll see it go up every now and then.

Same with all other Synthesizers... It directly add, keys, armor to you. I had 10+ keys by forge picking the synthesizer on floor 1...

Using it in conjunction with a weapon like BSG gives you a free run if you have both early. You will basically never run out of ammo because you killed everything in the room in 1-3 shots (2 average).
