[Spoilers] Are the secret levels even worth it?
Okay, so, I did some searching to find two secret levels (because I wasn't actually about to find them on my own) and am now wondering. Are the Obliette and the Abbey of the True Gun even worth it?

I'm not even talking about their difficulty, because anyone who's good or gets good could do them with only some difficulty. I'm just talking about the cost. It requires Two keys to get into the Obliette, that's two chests you don't get on the first floor, which could make or break your run. That typically means (for me) that I don't have another gun other then what I start with to fight the first boss (which is getting so much easier with how many times I fight them), and typically leaves me with one key (if I get semi-lucky) for the Obliette, which MIGHT have to be used to unlock the door to get the crest to unlock the Abbey of the True Gun, which is ANOTHER Stress test just to get (though, admittedly, not as expensive).

So, though the question I guess is just up for debate, because some people may find that it is worth it no matter what, does the cost of admission into the obliette outweigh the rewards of it? It's more rooms you have to fight through (where my playstyle is "explore less, live more") for 1-3 upgrades/guns, and more shells/coins/currency, which might help you save for the primer (but let's be honest, if you didn't get a good amount on the first floor, it's gonna be tough later)

Not counting the unlocks, in my opinion, no.

Oubliette is difficult-ish (except the boss) and as you said, it's two keys down the drain. Abbey requires you to not get hit for a couple rooms at best and if your layout is ♥♥♥♥♥ you might have to explore the whole second chamber to get to the entrance (plus another key, if the Crest is behind a locked door). The Old King is balls to the walls - I've beat the game, and while it might be because I haven't been to the Abbey too much, I can barely do anything to him. Patterns are chaotic and he has way too much health.

Oh, and from what I recall neither boss gives you a health up if you flawless them. Ain't that fun?

You will always find at least one key and enough money to buy another one during the oubliette, so that's strictly beneficial.

The question is, do you NEED to open those 2 chests on floor 1? And the answer depends on wether or not you're abble to reliably clean floor 1 and the oubliette with your starting pistol.

Oubliette is worth, it's a pretty easy level where you'll get stronger without any problem.

The second one, imho no. Old Bullet King is way way way too strong due to his tankiness, emptying 3 guns just for him is not worth. Either give me bigger rewards or nerf his HP.
Just do it once, unlock the item (which is very very strong) and then don't bother again unless you're having an OP run.

Well going to the first stange is always worth it if you're good enough to survive the floor without too much damage. My main issue was whenever I got the Old Crest, the 2nd floor would hate me and always give me bad layouts. Ive tried my best but wasnt able to bring it to the altar yet.
Would like to do it at least once to see the boss. Finished the 4 pasts before even seeing the 2nd secret stage. =(

While I agree that the Obliette is pretty easy (not the easiest, about as tough as the second level, at least), the question that I always ask myself is if it's worth the keys. I guess if there's literally no good chests on your first floor, then it's probably best to just use the keys to get into the Obliette.

Also, I'd like to beat the Abbey boss at least once. I got to him once, but damn if his attacks aren't scary to all hell. Multiple attacks that can cause full heart damage (hug the walls people, best way to block the spinning wheel of doom), it was just too much (and so much health, holy hell!)

Does one have to beat the boss in order to get the item? Or just get to the Abbey? Because I unlocked SOMETHING by just getting there, but I wasn't sure if there were more.

Yeah you have to beat him and the item is pretty OP and fun as well.

I gotta say not worth it.

Aside from the initial unlocks, there is no reason to paly through them again, aside from just wanting to.

Both bosses don't provide Master Rounds when beaten perfectly, and to even access to Oubilette, you have to spend two keys. The Old King is also a really tough fight, and tends to do some damage to me, damage which is often hard to recover in the later floors of the gungeon.

So no. Not unless you really feel like fighting Blobby Bobby and Old King again.

If you just get brown or maybe blue chests then use the keys on the Oubliette instead. If you have some other way to offset the key loss then do it (AKEY-47, Drill, Pilot, 2+ keys drop in rooms, etc.) If you found Ser Junken and want to level him up, then do it.

From that point on there may be no further cost to access the Abbey so to answer the OP's question I can't say it's not worth it... But realistically you will probably pay a lot of health to clear The Abbey so I recommend against unless skipping it is just too easy for you.

It's purely optional.

Is going through the Oubliette and the Abbey worth it?
I think your responses are going to be divided. :)

From my perspective it depends on what you find fun about Enter the Gungeon. If you like playing this game then it's pretty much a Game Extender for your run , and depending on your skill level with the game five or four potential extra chest can really push you to be very well off for the rest of the run.

Thanks for listening to my opinion in advance.

You can't say that the Old King is an unfair or a confusing boss, because even if it is, the community will never admin it.

That always made absolutely no sense to me. When someone says something is difficult, and someone says it's not unfair, why is the argument to say, "You just don't want to admit that it was unfair"? Like, what does that even mean? I've encountered so many people that refuse to believe that other players just didn't have trouble with the things they had trouble with, and it baffles me because I don't see why people would lie as if they had an obligation to protect the game.
Oubliette is worth it. You get money, loots, and a boss item reward and the level is pretty easy to be honest. I clear it with starter gun all the time if I haven't found anything good yet. Boss is real easy.

Abbey will screw you over really really bad. Don't do it. The rooms are manageable if you're really skilled and have a good weapon, but Old King has at least twice the health of other bosses, does double the damage, and the patterns are not simple or that easy to dodge. I have 450 hours and even I expect to take damage going in there, so much so that's it's just not worth it for some floor loot, a free chest that will probably troll you, and 1 boss reward. However I go to the Abbey all the time because I don't feel I've done a legit run if I don't have a ridiculous numbers of kills.
