Elevator 5 - 300/6 (completed)

Now that I finally killed my 1st past I want to focus on the floor 5 shortcut for a bit. Whilst cussing at the game over the past several runs for not giving me ammo drops I have seemingly gotten a bit better as I am now getting to floor 5 about 90% of the time. Also while giving the game a piece of my mind I got everything for the floor 5 shortcut yesterday except for the topic one so think I'll try to finish it off today. Any tips for the 300 casings/6 keys?

Getting 6 keys seems like it will be the hard part of this challenge.

If you do one secret chamber, you are guaranteed to have 6 keys
Best way to get more money drops is to increase your curse level if possible

Just play Pilot and lockpick EVERYTHING.

I made it to the fourth boss with 297 money and 6 keys, after using a key on one black chest (blue hero sash thing, op. Finally got to use MAC10 to my hearts content).

Sadly I died to kill pillar's final phase, she had one sliver of health left, one more hit.. Best thing I had to fight 'em was the genie lamp, didn't realize it'd work until I took a couple hits. :<

yea as someone said that getting cursed is a good 1 and i can't remember if the shrine at the start of the 1st floor , can only curse the characters who have completed a run or if you complete with 1 person everyone can use . But i will warn you if you curse your self with that shrine make sure you done buy or pick up any cursed items , as it puts you 1 away from the max were the reaper guy follows you and you won't be able to use the shops. So have fun and best of luck man on your runs .

Are you struggeling with their last phase in general or were you just not focusing enough?

Honestly, I would restart if you don't get around 80 ish casings on the first floor.

Don't worry about the oubliette, you don't need it and it just introduces more RNG. However, if you can get two lockpicks on it to work, it's worth it in that case.

Play as the pilot.

Well I got the win for this challenge now, and had enough credits to finish the last elevator.
Boss rush showed me the Door Lord. Interesting.
Not the easiest boss kill I've gotten.

The last phase isn't THAT hard, I just took a couple hits early and didn't leave enough wiggle room to survive. I've also only gotten the kill pillars like... three? four times tops? So basically I probably wasn't focusing enough.
I have my off runs, but I think I'm pretty decent at the game now. Only a few achievements left to get, Lead God is going to be hard, hoping for an OP Clone run I guess.

Totally off-topic, I guess spoiler:
Lich is ridiculous. First phase is fine. Second phase caught me off guard, ...haven't seen it before until then. A dodging style I've only seen in Undertale videos.

After quite a few runs being short on casings after having cleared the whole 5 stages, I tried using the shrine at the very beggining to get high curse level. You can only interact with that shrine after having beaten the character's past, so no easy mode using one of the bonus characters.

Doing this makes it very likely to get jammed ennemies that give a ton of casings, you get more than 100 every floor. That way, you can buy the guaranteed key from the shops at every level and only need a single key to drop from all 4 floors which makes it very reliable. You can also use all the extra keys and even buy a real item or two from the shops. You don't even need to step past the 5th floor elevator start.

I've never tried, but I've seen going to the oubliette suggested very often. Not sure if it really helps since you are down 2 keys, but it might be a good idea if one can't deal with the jammed stuff (only jammed adds during boss fights are really dangerous imo).

I didn't go to the oubliette when I completed the elevator. I was down 8 money when I hit floor 5, so I only had to do one room for success.

But the Oubliette, if you can handle it, is definitely a good idea for money.. And as the pilot, potential items.

Thanks for the input guys. Think i will go with both strats - cursed by the Lich statue and the oubilette... i liked the cursed one better tho, seems reliable for getting keys if they're enough available to buy and pretty much guarantees the shell casings. secret chamber 1 sounds less good just b/c of having to use 2 keys to get there but i'll still probably give it a shot if the cursed run isnt working out at first.

To OP of Door Lord stuff.. i found him to be quite easy. Was shocked in a run where he 'became' my boss cuz till then i didn't know he even existed =O died to him that 1st time but beat him with a normal crossbow the next time he showed up as floor 4 boss (y no ammo drops devs? sigh, neway)

Also, thx for warning me about the curse the Lich statue puts on ya - i wouldn't have known it puts you at 9 and would've learned the hard way =/

Might be beating a dead horse but yea Pilot to lockpick everything, do the secret chamber and look for secret rooms. It's not as hard as it seems.

Or you could just get really lucky like I did and have so many keys spawn that you have 6 by chamber 3 lol.

Oh and sell junk from failed lockpicked chests, every lil' bit counts.

Sounds good roll call, as far as secret rooms go here's what I know to look for in terms of finding them. They're usually found in...

- rooms w/ 1 exit
- exit elevator rooms
- chest rooms
- the shop

Any other tips on reliably finding them are appreciated.

just dropping back in to say i completed this task and unlocked the chamber 5 shortcut last night :) Wasn't that bad at all really (and surprisingly) - used the 'cursed by the Lich statue' method. in fact cursed mode (what i'm calling it) isn't that bad.. well, a few enemy combos/room configs can be a pain but think the game forcing me to play with my starter pistol for some time now has had a positive effect on my skill level... still pissed at you tho game.

I've found them on the corners of completely random rooms as well. I've had two secret rooms on a floor before, might have something to do with it.

I've tried to do it on blessed runs before, but I usually get stuck on the 4th floor boss due to bad RNG. I can't kill the Kill Pillars with a nail gun >_<
